Is it over?!
It’s not uncommon for anyone to have multiple relationships over the course of ten years. But when it comes to Teen Mom, sometimes the breakups and makeups get a little messy. On top of that, when there are pregnancies and babies involved, the splits get even more complicated. That hasn’t stopped any of the stars from kicking their men to the curb when it doesn’t work out.
But over the years, the Teen Mom cast have never ended things with their baby daddies while they were still pregnant. It looks like this cast member may be setting a new record.
Everyone knew that their relationship was a bit rocky from the very beginning, but things have gotten more and more unstable with recent allegations and arrests. Now it looks like they may be heading for divorce before they even become parents.
Rocky Waters
When Mackenzie Standifer first appeared on Teen Mom OG, fans — and Maci Bookout — were excited to meet Ryan Edwards’ new girlfriend. It’s not uncommon for the ex and the new girl to have immediate tension, but that wasn’t the case for Maci and Mackenzie. The two sat down for lunch to get to know one another, and they hit it off right away. After the scene, Maci revealed in a conversation with Taylor that she was happy Ryan and Mackenzie met and that she definitely approved of his new girlfriend.
At the time, Ryan was in a bit of a rocky place in his life, but it was nothing a twenty-something couldn’t come back from. Even though his relationship with his parents wasn’t in the best place, he was sober and working well to co-parent with his baby mama Maci.
As we all know, Ryan’s sobriety didn’t last very long. Fans began to notice strange behavior from Ryan on camera, and many even believed they spotted track marks on his arm from injections. Rumors began to quickly circulate that Ryan had developed a drug addiction, but it wasn’t until there was clear evidence of his addiction on camera that fans all agreed what the problem was.
Cleaning Up His Mess
In one of the most notorious scenes that MTV has ever aired on Teen Mom, Ryan Edwards was busted driving down the interstate while so high he could hardly keep his eyes open. What’s worse is that he was driving to his own wedding.
In the footage, it seems clear that Mackenzie knows something is wrong. “Why are you swerving?” she asks Ryan, who responds, “My eyes, babe, in the sunlight I can’t keep ‘em open.”
MTV came under fire for their decision to air the footage, especially because fans believed they could have stopped it if they were aware of what was happening. MTV soon acknowledged their decision, releasing a statement to People which read: “MTV does not condone driving under the influence. Ryan’s erratic behavior was due to actions that he took without anyone’s prior knowledge.”
Despite Ryan’s clear drug problem being aired to millions of viewers, Mackenzie continued to refuse to acknowledge his addiction. In the meantime, Maci seemed well aware of what was going on. During a vacation with her fellow Teen Mom OG fans, she revealed that she was concerned Ryan could lose his life to addiction. What’s more is she was concerned that Ryan’s entire family was enabling his addiction through their denial.
“What I’m saying is that everyone else around him is too afraid of what it will look like more than his health,” she tells her co-stars.
“You are so in love with the drugs that you feel that if you wake up in the morning without them you want to die,” Amber Portwood explained, having a history of addiction herself.
“I’m just sick of cleaning up his mess,” Maci added. “I get tired of dealing with the sh*t. Just being the only one that f*cking sees everything and cares.” She revealed, “I talk to Taylor about it like, ‘I wonder if today’s going to be the day that Ryan does something that he can’t come back from?’”
Pricey Habit
Despite Maci’s obvious concerned for the wellbeing of her baby daddy, this conversation is part of the reason her relationship with Mackenzie went downhill so fast.
During the Teen Mom OG reunion for the season, Mackenzie had some pretty aggressive words for Maci. In fact, she wrote them all down in a letter. The letter, which has become notorious among Teen Mom fans, reads:
““Maci, you told me to my face, merely days after I had informed you about Ryan seeking help, that you had known about his problem since November. That was 186 days; 400,464 hours; and 267,840 minutes that he could’ve died, and still, you said nothing. You let everyone know that you feared for his life, while concurrently exploiting Ryan and his addiction on the show. You preach about hating complacency and enabling. But, because you turned your head to the problem, that makes you the enabler, not everyone else that it’s blamed on. Instead of solving the problem, or making an effort to solve it, you decided to humiliate Ryan, humiliate myself and his entire family, but more importantly, you’ve humiliated our children for years to come. Helping Ryan doesn’t mean talking about all of his problems on national television. It means being supporting, not kicking someone when they’re down, and respecting the privacy that we all so graciously deserve.”
Of course, Maci didn’t take that lying down. She shot back that if Mackenzie wanted privacy, then she shouldn’t “sign up to be on a f*cking TV show.” She added, “And I didn’t exploit you, your husband did.”
She also accused Mackenzie of being “so full of sh*t [her] eyes turned brown.”
Needless to say, Maci and Mackenzie’s relationship has never recovered from these shocking accusations. In fact, it’s only gotten worse, as has Maci’s relationship with Ryan. Unfortunately, Ryan’s addiction also got worse.
During a recent episode of Teen Mom OG, Mackenzie revealed that Ryan was spending $10,000 a week on drugs including heroin and Xanax, and was using three times a day. Ryan then checked into a rehab center.
