Over the years, the Teen Mom cast has gotten their fair share of complaints about the way that they act behind the wheel. The girls have often been filmed texting, talking on the phone, or even Facetiming while they drive themselves and their children around. Despite being begged by numerous fans to play it safer when driving, there doesn’t seem to be much of a change in their habits.
This close call with what could have been a fatal accident may have made Maci Bookout reconsider what she does behind the wheel. It seems to have been a huge wake-up call for what could possibly happen if safety precautions aren’t taken seriously.
Maci Bookout’s life has had as many ups and downs as her Teen Mom counterparts’, but there’s more to her story than meets the eye. Unlike some of her cast members, she doesn’t often to wear her heart on her sleeves. There are often difficulties she experiences without any of her fans ever knowing. That may be why she doesn’t spend a lot of time discussing what could have been an extremely traumatic experience in her life.
During last episode of Teen Mom OG, Taylor and Maci go out for a romantic date to celebrate the one year anniversary of their marriage, and Taylor sets up a limo to pick them up. They pop champagne and share a kiss, and then Maci stops to buckle her seatbelt. Although it was a small moment, some fans brought it to her attention.
“[Maci,] I’ve never seen someone buckle up in a limo,” wrote Twitter user @britt_burns. “Extra cautious ?.”
Maci replied to clear up why she had buckled up. “haha! i was waiting on someone to catch that,” she wrote. “my seatbelt seriously saved my life in a horrific accident a couple of years ago, i never go without it.”
Maci was referring to a horrifying car accident she suffered in 2015, when Bentley was only 6. She hit a car with a blown out tire on the highway, and her car flipped three times before landing upside down. It’s disturbing to think about what could have happened if Maci and Bentley weren’t wearing their seatbelts. At the time, Maci shared pictures of the wreckage and wrote, “Thanking God that Bentley and I were able to walk away from this nightmare with only a few bruises.”
This is far from the only trauma that was brought up in this episode, however. Once they made it to their dinner, their celebration touched on another upsetting topic ― the recent unexpected miscarriage of their unborn child “Dandy.”
The topic comes up after they began to discuss the possibility of having another child together. “If you still want another baby, then I’ll do it — but I still want to adopt, too. And if that’s really what you want naturally, I want to do it now,” Maci reveals.
Taylor says, “If we want it to happen, it’s going to happen like now,” with a snap of his fingers.
“You’re forgetting something… think about it,” Maci says back.
Taylor seems upset, and says he’s leaving to go use the restroom. While he’s gone, Maci reveals to a producer what the couple is so upset about.
“I had a miscarriage,” she reveals. She adds, “Her name’s Dandy. Dandelion!”
Taylor tells Maci that he doesn’t want to talk about it, but Maci pushes. “I think it’s important for people that are watching that we talk about it,” the star says.
