While the verdict is still out for Matt Baier (surgery? Sure, Matt…), it seems like we now know why Simon is playing hooky—the promised paycheck. The MTV personality took to Twitter to show fans exactly what MTV was offering him to come do a one-on-one interview with Nessa at the reunion: $250, airfare, hotel, and a per diem.

Of course, this reveal is at odds with what we’ve previously learned about the Teen Mom paychecks which have traditionally been shockingly high, no matter whose name was on the check. Earlier this year bad dad Adam Lind claimed that he made about $250k per season at this point, while Chelsea Houska’s checks were in the $300k range.

Either way, I think Simon is totally right to turn down that offer! If his goal is fame and money—and, let’s be real, he signed on to Teen Mom well past the PSA seasons and deep into the reality-drama seasons. Then $250 and a per diem isn’t nearly enough to get an appearance. I’m actually on Simon’s side for this one. Stick to your guns and get the money you deserve!
