Kailyn Lowry has changed a lot in her years on Teen Mom 2, and she’s made some pretty controversial decisions during that time. Like all of the other Teen Mom stars, Kailyn has a huge following in the fan base, but she also faces a huge amount of hate and trolls with her every move.
Kailyn recently gave birth to her third son, Lux. As anyone who’s had a child knows, motherhood means getting a lot of unsolicited advice about how to parent — but when you’re a celebrity mother, the advice comes from people you’ve never even met!
But are fans right to be concerned about the way Kailyn is raising her sons? This may be more than just a question of preference — some are accusing Kailyn’s mothering decisions of putting her children’s lives at risk.

Everyone has their own personal style of motherhood, and as long as it’s not causing harm, it’s really up to them. However, when people think that a mother’s decision is putting theirs or others’ children at risk, many feel compelled to step in.
Recently, a movement against vaccination has gripped America. Based completely on pseudoscience, many mothers refuse to vaccinate their children for fear that the vaccines could cause disabilities like autism. Those mothers who opt not to vaccinate their children leave their kids open to a host of potentially fatal diseases that could affect the children around them as well.
When Kailyn first had Isaac and Lincoln, she made an incredibly controversial decision to not vaccinate her children. Shortly after Lincoln’s birth, Kailyn opened up about her decision. “We aren’t vaccinating,” she tweeted, adding that her children could still attend school if they “fill out a specific form.”
The star faced a huge amount of backlash for this decision, and now it’s flaring up again as fans wonder whether she also left her son Lux exposed to illness.

Although there is a small following of people who are so-called “anti-vaxxers,” fans were worried about Kailyn’s impressionable following who were receiving the message from her.
“I know it’s just Kail we’re talking about, but she still has influence over other women (including young moms!)” wrote Reddit user TieDyeRehabHoodie.
User EyeAmWhatIAm pointed out that this decision could have serious effects on innocent children:
“There are kids who can’t get vaccines because they have health issues (cancer treatments, egg and other allergies, for example) so when people elect not to vaccinate their children because they read some poorly researched opinion on a platform, they are putting those children who can’t receive vaccines at risk of life threatening illnesses that have been otherwise eradicated by modern medicine (like polio).”
Kailyn isn’t the only Mom who received backlash for her vaccination decisions. Chelsea Houska also stirred up a vaccination controversy, but for the opposite reason! When Chelsea mentioned that she had vaccinated her son Watson, she received backlash from anti-vaxxers for her choice. She took to Twitter to vent, writing, “I was waiting for these tweets ….” with a link to a tweet from a viewer that read “Hopefully you’ve stopped vaccinating and started researching! #learntherisk.”
But most fans spoke out in support of Chelsea’s choice to join the 90% of Americans who vaccinate their children, according to Parents.com. “Thank you for vaccinating your baby!! I’ll take my doctors medical degree over some random persons google search every day of the week and twice on Sunday!” wrote Instagram user khug1014.
So far, Kailyn hasn’t revealed whether or not she vaccinated Lux, so there’s a chance that she changed her stance!
