A Horrific Experience
For those that don’t know, the United States saw one of the biggest acts of domestic terrorism in U.S. history last night. A man opened fire at a Las Vegas festival, killing over 50 and injuring over 200 people. This horrific event has sparked a huge conversation about gun control in the United States, with politicians, celebrities, and activists weighing in about reform to this legislation.
When it comes to Teen Mom, die-hard fans associate Las Vegas with one man: Amber Portwood’s ex-fiancé, Matt Baier. After the news came out, many avid Teen Mom viewers began to wonder about Matt’s safety. Matt opened up about his location during the shooting not long after, but instead of ensuring fans of his safety… He just confused everyone.
After the shooting in Las Vegas, many celebrities took to social media to speak out about the event. Among them were some Teen Mom cast members sending their love and concerns. Kailyn tweeted, “Sending my love, thoughts, and condolences to Vegas today.” She later added, “Hold your family close tonight… this world is so f**ked up.”
Catelynn Lowell wrote, “My thoughts and prayers are with #LasVegas. I am honestly so disgusted by what happened.. This is the world we live in? So many prayers for the people of Las Vegas.”
Jenelle chimed in, “I am so sorry to those who lost loved ones in this tragic event. This is crazy and beyond words. MY heart is broken for all of you.”
Even Jenelle’s ex Nathan weighed in, writing, “I’m so sorry about current events in Las Vegas. It makes my body cringe to see such violence.”
Not long after, Matt Baier shared his condolences as well. He wrote, “Please pray for the victims, their families and for the city of Las Vegas. It was truly the most terrifying night of my life. #prayforvegas.”
Matt isn’t exactly known for his honesty, so fans were immediately skeptical that he was at the event. Reddit user lost__in__space wrote, “Gross and disgusting if he’s lying.”
User RoraRoy pointed out, “Well he never says he was actually at the concert. Doesn’t he live in Vegas? Maybe he meant it was scary not knowing what happened or if his loved ones were accounted for. A friend of mine was on the strip last night and I know I was terrified this morning when she didn’t answer the phone. Thankfully she’s safe, but not knowing was horrible.”
After all the speculation, it soon became clear that Matt wasn’t claiming to be at the event itself. As pointed out by user Xquisiteroughpatch, Matt replied to a comment saying, “Not at the concert on the strip. It was terrible and were sequestered to our homes until 8:30am today.”
“F**k Matt and all but I don’t think this is something to really criticize him for,” user yehet420 wrote. “When you’re in the immediate or surrounding area of an unpredictable event like this it makes sense to be frightened, especially when you don’t know how many gunmen there are or if they’re still at large. He could have also had friends there.”
