This could spell disaster!
Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in all of the drama, fights, and love stories featured on Teen Mom. But at the end of the day, there’s a reason why it’s on television: because it makes money! The minute the show stops being profitable, it’s bound to be cancelled. It’s hard to say when that day is coming, but with this recent update, it may be sooner than it looks.
MTV has just lost a major advertiser in connection with Teen Mom, and it may be enough to pull the show off the air. But what’s even more shocking is the reason the advertiser pulled back: because of Jenelle Evans’ recent scandals.
It’s no secret that Jenelle Evans is a controversial Teen Mom character. Ironically, that may be a reason why Teen Mom 2 ratings are normally so high! People tune in every week to see what her recent drama, scandals, and relationships are. Unfortunately, all of the drama has been getting more and more intense lately. After her husband David Eason was fired for his homophobic rant, Jenelle’s own employment has been up in the air. But many fans remember that Jenelle has some serious skeletons in her closet besides.
Like many of her Teen Mom co-stars, Jenelle has a history of working with different advertisers to promote their products. She recently secured a deal with a meal providing service, Blue Apron, which didn’t last very long. That’s because Jenelle’s Twitter “haters” were quick to condemn the company for working with her.
“I will pass on Blue Apron now that I know you support Jenelle Evans,” one user tweeted at the company. Another user wrote, “By @blueapron having Jenelle Evans as an advertiser for your company is a bad idea. She’s a drug addict who abuses her kids on TV. You just lost my business. Good job. I won’t be the only one. #blueapron #teenmom.”
One fan even found old tweets that Jenelle had posted in 2012, sharing them with the company. The tweets Jenelle posted read, “uhm at least my bf isn’t a f*gg that parties at gay clubs and likes transvestites, lmao want to see?” and “it’s not like I said kill the f*gs so chill out, f*g.”
It wasn’t long before Blue Apron responded to the accusations. “Thanks for reaching out. We will no longer be advertising with Jenelle,” they announced, effectively firing Jenelle.
Apparently this is working out for them. One user replied, “I will restart my meal plan order because you listened and did the right thing.”
It’s one thing for Jenelle to lose her side gig, but could she lose Teen Mom 2 entirely?
No More Funding
Apparently, this wasn’t enough for some “haters.” One Twitter user revealed that they reached out to a major company, Unilever. Unilever owns the company Dove, which advertises with commercials during Teen Mom 2. After informing them of Jenelle’s history and recent scandals, Unilever revealed that they would no longer sell their products during the show.
“We appreciate you following up with us regarding our advertising during Teen Mom 2,” the email reads, as shared on Twitter and reddit. “We have made the decision to discontinue advertising any of our Brands during the show.”
While this may have been what the haters wanted, it could also lose Teen Mom 2 some serious revenue, and even lead to them being canceled. Needless to say, this has many fans concerned!
“Let’s all just take chill pill and a couple of deep breaths…let’s not get our favorite trash tv show cancelled!” wrote reddit user cassanonymous.
