He's officially gone!
MTV is proving that the tolerance for bigotry, transphobia, and homophobia is lower than ever. After Jenelle Evans’ husband David Eason publicly aired his bigoted and inflammatory views across social media, fans urged the network to take action — and take action they did! Now, the network has officially released news that David has been fired from his role as a Teen Mom 2 cast member.
The network has released an official statement regarding their decision, and it is currently unclear whether or not Jenelle will continue to film on her own.
Formal Firing
After David Eason showed his true colors — his homophobic and transphobic colors, that is — fans demanded that MTV take action. In addition to publicly airing their distaste for David’s charged words, many fans banded together to demand that MTV take action against Jenelle Evans’ husband. With their petition gaining over 9,000 signatures of viewers who wanted David to be fired from the show, the fans’ demands apparently became too much for MTV to ignore.
“David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him,” read a statement by MTV released Feb. 20, 2018.
This result comes after David spent a length of time voicing his homophobic and transphobic views on Twitter.
“Lmao why don’t you go tell the homo and transgender parents to start teaching their kids better morals? Oh I forgot thats supposed to be normal,” David wrote in a recent tweet which followed months of bigoted comments from the star.
When one fan asked, “Who are you to say what’s normal or what’s moral? Are you going to teach your children to hate gay and transgender people?” David revealed that he plans to raise Jace, Kaiser, Ensley, and Maryssa to be homophobic and bigoted.
“No, Im going to teach them not to associate with them or be that way…” he said. “If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.”
Jenelle’s Statement
When fans accused him of being homophobic, he said, “Never said anything about being scared [of] homos,” he wrote. “Homophobic? You really lost it now, im not scared [of] s**t especially a homo.”
Whether or not fans agree with MTV’s decision, the question on everyone’s minds is: will Jenelle be fired, or quit, as well? As of right now, Jenelle has released a statement about MTV’s choice.
“David didn’t understand how [offended] people would get or how Twitter even works,” Jenelle released in a statement to TMZ. Now that he realizes his voice is very strong within media/tabloids he has deactivated his account. He agrees he will keep his comments to himself from now on.”
Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Jenelle made a claim that David is not, in fact, homophobic. “David doesn’t hate people from the LGBT community,” she claimed. “My old manager was gay and used to be one of me and Davids close friends. We attended Farrah’s birthday in Miami with a lot of LGBT people there and he didn’t act in any type of way. We went had a good time and left.”
Jenelle signed off with an apology, saying, “We are sorry for the comments that were made.” Needless to say, fans are not buying it given David’s long history of homophobic behaviors. Fans are now simply left speculating as to whether Jenelle herself will get the axe or resign herself.
Jenelle’s Status
“And Jenelle will be gone,” theorized Reddit user i-am-canadian-sorry. “There is No WAY IN H*LL David will let Jenelle travel without him, film without him or include Ensley without him. Jenelle is done, have fun getting a job. David did what he has been planning to do, he has won at damaging all of Jenelles relationships and isolating her,” they finished.
User KeshaIsMyIdol agreed that Jenelle will likely take her leave of the show as well. “I’m assuming David has no idea that free speech does not equal free of repercussions. I’m happy MTV did the right thing,” they wrote on Reddit. “I have a feeling that as soon as Jenelle’s contract is done, she’s done, too. He will not allow her to continue filming.”
