He's catching some old, bad feelings
Catelynn Lowell’s bouts with postpartum depression, anxiety, and panic attacks have been well-publicized. She decided to check herself into a mental health facility for a month, in order to learn how to manage her emotions.
Tyler stood by Catelynn, but he didn’t see depression coming for him personally. Dealing with his wife’s emotional state took quite an toll on him that he wasn’t expecting, and now he’s reeling from a joyless, difficult life.
Keeping it Together
On the premiere episode of Teen Mom OG on Monday, April 17th, Tyler Baltierra expressed to his mother Kim that he just wasn’t feeling like himself and that stress was really getting to him.
He said, “I don’t know if it’s her mental illness on top and dealing with all of that and then having to be super strong. Trying to keep it all together upstairs. I need to go see my therapist.”
When they were filming this episode a few months ago in 2016, Catelynn was already home from rehab for her severe depression and anxiety, but she was still dealing with her extreme emotions.
She could easily get upset over insignificant things, so Tyler made sure to be gentle with her.
His father Butch violated his parole in fall 2016, and he was headed back to jail. This triggered some very bad feelings for Tyler that he hadn’t experienced in a while.
Tyler expressed his frustrations to his therapist, then he tried to explain how he was feeling to Catelynn, knowing that she may shut down in her state.
