Teen Mom OG is gaining two controversial cast members in its next season... and now it's losing two more! Check out who's been fired from Teen Mom OG!
Sometimes, you just want nothing to do with your ex. Especially in relationships that end badly, it’s not uncommon for people to totally cut ties with the romances of their past. But when you have a child involved, it’s not quite as easy to cut people out.

And Maci Bookout is certainly familiar with wanting nothing to do with her ex. Even though her romance with Ryan Edwards is a thing of her distant past, it’s not so easy for Maci to cut him out of her life entirely. After all, Ryan is the father of her first son, Bentley.
But Bentley isn’t the only thing that ties Maci and Ryan’s lives together. On top of their co-parenting, they are also coworkers: they both star on Teen Mom OG together. Now, it looks like that’s all changing.
After Farrah Abraham was fired from Teen Mom OG, MTV used footage of Ryan and his controversial wife Mackenzie Standifer to fill more time in the show. And it’s not hard to see why: their tug-of-war with Maci was one of the focal points of the season. And toward the end of the season, Mackenzie even revealed that she was pregnant with Ryan’s second child!
Maci didn’t hold back with her feelings about Mackenzie and Ryan, though. She often voiced that she believed they were both liars and that Mackenzie was enabling Ryan’s addiction.
Unfortunately, a recent relapse adds some credibility to Maci’s claims.
Of course, Farrah’s firing isn’t the only shakeup that the Teen Mom OG cast will be seeing next season. On top of her departure, MTV has hired Are You The One and The Challenge stars Cory Wharton and Cheyenne Floyd despite Cheyenne’s being accused of racism . Recently it was also revealed that Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol Palin will be another unexpected addition to the cast! Could MTV be deciding “out with the old, in with the new” is the way to go?
Now it seems that Ryan and Mackenzie will no longer be a part of the OG cast. The couple confirmed this update to People this week.
“We’re not returning to Teen Mom this season,” Mackenzie spilled in the interview. However, she claims that it was MTV’s decision.
“The network [MTV] told us they don’t want to show Ryan as a recovering addict,” Mackenzie said. She added that MTV “did want to enter a contract with our unborn baby and have the baby film with Ryan’s parents so it would look like someone else is raising it.”
Mackenzie went on, “They want to talk about us but they don’t want to pay us and film us.” Mackenzie claimed that Maci was in on the decision, threatening not to film unless Ryan and Mackenzie were off!
According to Mack, Maci told MTV “She’s not going to film unless [Ryan enters] rehab again and quit the show.”
Mackenzie and Ryan shared more details about their departure from MTV with E! News.
“[MTV wants] to take Maci’s word on how I’m doing,” Ryan said. “Maci’s said she’s not going to film unless I enter rehab again and quit the show. But I’m sober.”
“I know they did want five girls to begin with after Farrah left to sort of resemble Teen Mom 2,” Mackenzie claimed. “But they didn’t want to see another recovering addict storyline. So they’re writing us out of the show right now and making it seem like we dipped out on our baby, on Bentley and on everyone. And that’s just not the case.”
Ryan added, “They want to talk about us but they don’t want to pay us and film us.”
However, Bentley and his parents will still be on the show.
"The show had been paying for my healthcare and for the baby so they could film the visits and then a week ago they let me know that would no longer be the case," Mackenzie revealed.
"They're not going to film the birth. We're not going to be on at all. Maci can't speak to Ryan and Ryan can't speak to Maci – that was a mutual decision. But she doesn't know what's going on in our lives."
When asked whether she would consider filming again down the road, Mackenzie spilled, “If they don’t want to film now, then we don’t want to film later.”
Fans were quick to speak out with their reactions to this announcement. “Let's see how long this marriage lasts when they don't have this excess MTV money and Rhine has to dip into their real living money,” wrote NommyPie on reddit. They added, “Oh who am I kidding, [Ryan’s parents Jen and Larry] will hand over their paychecks to Rhine anyways.”
User Repogirl27 agreed with this theory, writing, “What if Ryan and MacKenzie are okay with Jen and Larry still filming because they plan on giving their MTV checks to them? And Larry and Jen are okay with that arrangement because they’re tired of M&R looking bad on national television and this gives J&L an opportunity to do some damage control on their behalf and make sure they’re financially set for the baby.”
“Well that sucks with a new baby making its entrance soon,” wrote misspriss91. “D*mn imagine being her. You’ve dreamed about being on 16 and pregnant and teen mom and you finally get it made reality but you got with the lowest of his season with a million issues.”
Many fans seem to be in Maci’s corner after this update. “It's about time someone stopped being an enabler and protected her child. Go Maci! The MTV money and attention would only fuel his addiction and other issues and Bentley doesn't need to hear about everything his high dad did for the rest of his life. The driving and marrying under influence was already bad enough,” wrote Nice2meetya2.
Meanwhile, Ryan went on his own public rant after this reveal… but he was speaking out against addiction.
“I will never stop speaking out against this horrible disease! It consumes your life and turns you into someone even you don’t know. I’m asking you to never give up. Each day is a struggle. I’ve made mistakes and I have really messed up in the past but there is so much hope ahead and it doesn’t mean I can’t change the future,” Ryan wrote on Facebook.
He went on, “Don’t take everything you see on MTV as factual truth. They don’t want to show me or Mack in a happy light or that I am active in my recovery. I AM. They want to make me look angry, passive aggressive and uncaring regarding things that mean the most to me. I’m done taking their sh*t and letting the world believe this by standing up for myself. You’re believing a lie. And soon… very very soon, you WILL see the TRUTH behind the LIAR.”
But fans weren’t really buying this. “See, if I had cameras following me 24/7, I’m sure they would catch me at my worst a few times, although I’d like to believe I’d be on my best behavior KNOWING I’m being filmed,” wrote user etakyram on reddit.
They went on:
“Still, I might get caught snapping at one of the kids or crying or overreacting over something stupid, maybe sh*t talking an ex or baby daddy, whatever. They probably could edit the scenes down to where they highlight those moments so I get how that could be frustrating. As it would be for any parent, especially a young parent. However... you can’t just ‘portray’ someone not giving a f*ck about anything 24/7, mumbling and grunting as the only form of communication, or being high as F*CK on heroin behind the wheel while on the way to your wedding. You just can’t make that kind of sh*t up. He sounds like Jenelle and [David Eason]. If Rhine is doing all he can do, good for him. But I don’t buy it. The way he’s ‘portrayed’ is what he chooses to show. I feel like he’s embarrassed for being a heroin addict as anyone would be. But instead of taking responsibility and dealing with it head on he would rather divert and distract which clearly does not work.”
However, many fans don’t think that Ryan even wrote this post! “Yeahhhh he didn’t write that. It almost sounds like an ad,” wrote peekabewbew. “Clearly Mackenzie wrote this... She's panicking because she makes a whole living off of bashing Maci in every single scene she films,” theorized JustCuriousInCanada. “And being Ryan's defender/enabler. Her life long dream was to be on Teen Mom, I believe she only got with Ryan and is having his baby so she could secure big MTV cheques… If Mack's with Ryan for love and not fame, I don't think being off the show would have any effect on her or her relationship... BUT based on the 1000 angry comments she's made on Instagram since it was reported she and Rhine were fired - I think it's safe to say her only goal was ‘teen mom fame’ and money. That's why she's scrambling to paint Ryan as a victim whose ‘battle with addiction’ needs attention... And MTV is the big, bad wolf who doesn't care about this ‘disease’. Mack can kick rocks because we watched her marry Ryan twice while he was heavily under the influence. She's a [piece of sh*t].”
There’s another piece of this puzzle that is impossible to ignore: the restraining order Maci was recently granted after exposing Ryan’s violent behavior!
Even though the season was tense, it’s what happened after the season ended that made it clear to fans that Ryan was much worse off than he was claiming. In late March, Ryan was busted with a heroin and fourteen needles while driving. From there, it became clear that Ryan was in a very dark place — and apparently, it was also violent.
In early April, only a few days after Ryan’s arrest, Maci Bookout filed a restraining order against her baby daddy.
According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Ryan’s behavior before the restraining order was becoming frightening.
“He has left voicemail messages threatening to show up at my house and take my son,” Maci claimed. “He has made threats to show up and hurt me if I don’t answer my phone.”
According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Ryan’s behavior before the restraining order was becoming frightening.
“He has left voicemail messages threatening to show up at my house and take my son,” Maci claimed. “He has made threats to show up and hurt me if I don’t answer my phone.”
Apparently, Ryan has been extremely violent towards Taylor as well. “He called me on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 and threatened to show up at my house and put a bullet in my head,” Taylor claimed in his own order, according to here. “The police were called and they suggested to seek an order of protection.”
Maci filed for the order in April, and received a court date of May 21. E! Online broke the news that Maci was granted her restraining order. A Hamilton County Circuit Court Public Information Officer told E! that “The judge dismissed the ex parte order of protection and then entered a mutual restraining order."
Ryan’s attorney informed E! that "[They] did agree to a restraining order where Ryan will not go within 100 feet of Maci and her current husband and their two children.” He added, “Ryan has no exclusions with Bentley and is still able to see his son under the new restraining order. This gives Ryan a lot more protection against any false allegations, allows him to avoid getting arrested without a hearing first, and allows him to be around his son most importantly."
He went on, "Ryan agreed to this outcome to make it easier on everyone and not go through a formal process of a trial. Moving forward Ryan hopes everyone can get through this without any issues and that he can see his son."
In fact, some fans believe that this restraining order could have played a significant role in MTV’s decision to part ways with Ryan and Mackenzie.
“Does anybody think the 2 YEAR restraint order placed on Rhine was the final straw for MTV? That and passing out while driving, marrying a sociopath and drinking immediately after rehab? But Big Mac blames Maci!” pondered CatBoudreaux on reddit.
Some fans agreed that it was MTV’s decision to boot Ryan and Mackenzie. “[Mackenzie] can try to blame Maci but we all know that MTV would have filmed Ryan and Mack when they really wanted to,” wrote Nice2meetya2. “MTV didn't. The general public was very critical towards MTV after he passed out for a bit behind the wheel. Ryan became a liability to MTV. And as for Maci, would MTV have filmed something she could not possibly have know, she would have been hated too for not protecting Bentley enough. I think she is right to keep his dad from.the screen. I also think she is actually doing Ryan a huge favor, protects him even.”
However, others believe Maci pushed MTV into the decision. “ think MTV won't film him because of Maci. She refused to film unless he got help and he said no,” wrote llamalover729. They added, “I think everyone involved knows he isn't sober so MTV won't fight it too much. They know Maci is right and probably support her. Overdosing while filming would be horrific for them.” User MrsVrt wrote, “Maci is the golden girl of OG and I don’t blame her at all for leveraging that to keep Ryan off the show. He threatened her and her family. He’s also a drug addict that I highly doubt is in recovery. And yes, I realize that Jenelle was filmed while nodding out and Amber was filmed assaulting Gary, on drugs, and threatening to kill herself. The difference is that Benny is like 8-9 and has a mom that is willing to throw down to do what she can to protect her son from as much hurt as she can.”
User Mamablonde pointed out, “Wasn’t MTV, at one time, considering making Mackenzie a full-time cast member in order to replace Farrah? It seems they’ve gone in the opposite direction picking girls that have no real connection to the show. By not adding Mackenzie and writing her and Ryan off the show, it seems MTV is going for a radical change.”
