Her fans think that she could have done better
Mackenzie McKee is one of the more beloved women featured on 16 & Pregnant, but she’s not without her bad moments. Some of her actions have been called downright dangerous. She’s been seen letting her three children do whatever they want, no matter how potentially deadly it can be. We’ve just found out that her own careless behavior may be the root cause for her youngest son’s medical issues. Perhaps after having two healthy children, she thought that she could do whatever she wanted to do with no problems.

In Season 4 of 16 & Pregnant, we met Mackenzie Douthit, a 16-year-old cheerleader from Oklahoma who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child. All of her three children were delivered by C-section due to her medical condition.

When diabetic women are pregnant, they have to be very careful with their diets, despite experiencing cravings. Mackenzie explained, “Although pregnant people like to eat a lot, I had to eat everything just right. If I had a low blood sugar it was suffocating the baby, and when I had a high blood sugar, it was giving the baby extra sugar, which made him gain weight.
“It was very hard with all the hormones to keep my blood sugars normal. I did everything right and STILL had mess ups. So, yes, I had LOTS of complications. It was very hard. I honestly didn’t think I would make it.”
