It's just not a good time for Bentley to be around him right now
You don’t mess with a mama bear’s cubs because you’re going to lose. Maci Bookout doesn’t think that her ex-boyfriend Ryan Edwards is ready to handle their child Bentley on his own, even though he’s freshly released from rehab. Ryan still has a long way to go to change his life, and Bentley doesn’t need to be a part of that, according to Maci. She’s going to do what she needs to do to make sure that her son is kept safe from any harm that Ryan could do.
Maci knew that Ryan was going through a hard time, but because she only had a co-parenting relationship with him and didn’t see him everyday, she felt that it wasn’t her place to butt into his life. Even though she knew he was up to something, she couldn’t help him as much as other people. She said during the Ask the Moms special, “Yeah I knew there was an issue in the past. I didn’t know it was anything like it was.”
Road to Rehab
When Maci found out that Ryan was finally going to rehab, she was thrilled, saying, “I felt like a completely different person right away. I knew the cloud over me, and all of us, was big and dark and heavy, but I just didn’t know how big and dark and heavy it was until it was gone.” She was especially happy that Ryan would be healthy for their son Bentley.
Maci was reluctant to let Bentley see Ryan as much as he wanted to because she knew that Ryan had issues. An addiction counselor advised her that she should use Bentley as a reason to get Ryan into rehab.
Now that Ryan is back home, it doesn’t mean he’s in the right headspace to see his son as much as he can; that may be causing big problems for them…
