The fans are NOT happy.
All mothers make mistakes when it comes to parenting; it’s simply human nature. Normally when parenting errors are made, mothers get called out for it by close friends. When you’re a celebrity mother and you make a mistake, though, you get called out by the thousands of people in your fanbase.
What Kailyn did this time is not a small mistake. In fact, she essentially put her children’s lives at risk unnecessarily, in addition to doing something completely illegal. From those who dislike Kailyn to those who admire her, it seems every fan was disappointed with her behavior. And, considering she could have killed her children by her behavior, there’s no question as to why.
Risking Their Lives
Every now and then, one of the Teen Moms does something so shocking that it gets the attention of the entire fanbase. From having a kid at 16 or 17 to the addictions and abuse the girls have faced, it’s no wonder that they’ve made some bad decisions in their time on the show.
But now they’re all in their mid-20’s and should have grown out of it. The fans are holding them to higher and higher standards, and Kailyn just angered pretty much her entire fanbase.
One angry fan on Reddit posted this screencap of Kailyn from a recent episode of Teen Mom. She’s driving the car with her boys in the back seat, and it looks like, instead of focusing on the road and her children’s safety, Kailyn thinks it’s more important to stay on facetime.
In addition to putting her kids at risk, Kailyn is breaking some serious laws: “Delaware’s hands free cell phone law has been in effect since 2011 and bans all drivers from using hand held cell phones, pagers, PDAs, blackberrys, laptops, games or portable computers while driving. Drivers are not allowed to talk without using a hands-free device, read, write or send text messages, email or use the Internet while operating a motor vehicle. Drivers caught using a hand-held device will be fined roughly $106 ($50 base fine with fees) for their first offense, with subsequent penalties reaching up to $350 with fees.”
There’s no need to explain why fans were so upset about this. All laws aside, many fans felt that Kail was putting her own desires before her children’s safety. User moonjellies wrote, “So frustrating. Honestly, it’s so narcissistic that she feels the need to facetime, like ‘look at me!!’ , she could use Bluetooth and do a regular phonecall if she actually needed to talk to anyone.” Others were more concerned about the way this could have affected her kids. “When they put the disclaimer about disturbing footage on the latest episode then cut to Kail driving I immediately thought we were going to see the aftermath of a texting while driving car wreck with the boys,” wrote user shrinktastic.
Some even called out MTV for allowing Kailyn to do this. “I really can’t stand it when any of the moms take a phone call or text when they’re driving. Why does MTV allow this? Why can’t they wait for a different setting to film the conversation or keep the driving footage to conversations strictly in the car? It pisses me off so much,” user crazyauntkanye wrote on the thread.
