Mixed families are more and more common nowadays. While people have been having children with multiple partners for some time, the practice is becoming increasingly accepted, especially for women. When a family isn’t “traditional,” how the parents chose to deal with incorporating their mixed family into a cohesive unit can vary greatly… And when you’re a star on a major reality show like Teen Mom, your choices can be kind of controversial.
Jenelle Evans recently became Jenelle Eason which means that her own mixed family just got a little bit more complicated. In addition to her three children, Jace, Kaiser, and Ensley, she’s also stepmother to David’s two children, Maryssa and Kaden. Even though they don’t live together all the time, Jenelle is making an effort to make their family more unified, though her way of going about it is getting her some serious hate.

When Jenelle married David, she also married their families together. Jenelle has two children (Jace and Kaise), David has two of his own (Maryssa and Kaden), and they share newborn Ensley. Between them, they have a family of seven! It’s likely difficult to navigate becoming parents to so many children at once, even if they’re not all full-time.
Motherhood is tricky for anyone, no matter how many children you’ve had and it gets even more difficult when you’re famous. For the cast of Teen Mom it goes without saying that your choices are going to be criticized. For Jenelle’s fans who care deeply about the children they’ve seen grow up before their eyes, one of Jenelle’s newest choices has been very controversial.
Although Kaiser and Jace have their own biological fathers, Jenelle is reportedly insisting that all of her children call David “dad.” Whether she’s doing it for Ensley’s sake or just becuase she wants them to view David as their father is unclear.
The theory comes after Jenelle posted this picture of Jace, Maryssa, and Kaiser sitting on a fort that they built on The Land. The caption reads, “‘Ta-daaaaa!’ They built a fort yesterday with the help of Capt. Dad. #BuildingMemories.”
“Which dad though?” user ashleyburke002 wrote. User catlaws12 pointed out that “[h]e’s not Jace or Kaiser’s Dad. He might be their stepdad but he isn’t their dad… you only have one dad and that’s your biological one. You wouldn’t call another woman Mum so why call another man Dad. That’s just how I see it.”
User southernbella00_ agreed. “Super weird she refers to David as Jace and Kaiser’s ‘dad.’”

Not everyone was so upset about Jenelle’s parenting. “For [Jace] this is like having a father becsuse his real father is never around and if David is being a dad let him. All ur rude nasty comments are disgusting to me. I have both a father and a step dad to me they are both my dad’s. I’ve been calling my step dad my dad for 22 years now… Anyone [can] be a father but it takes someone special to step up and be a dad way to go david,” wrote user brelignore07.
Others even insisted that David “is” Kaiser and Jace’s father. User_issa_tq@bratztaxi1969 insisted, “he IS! They’re MARRIED and he’s the ONLY MALE figure in BOTH of their lives while the ‘biological fathers’ are BUMS and not visible! WHEN have you seen Jace’s REAL father? I’ll wait… DUMBEST COMMENT on social media EVER!”
