They think she went too far!
While everyone has their own unique sense of humor, there are some topics that are universally accepted as “going too far.” When jokes become morbid or make fun of a devastating loss, it’s not just uncomfortable — it’s completely disrespectful. Most people have slipped up with this kind of humor now and then, but because Briana DeJesus has the eyes of millions watching her at any given moment, her lapse in judgement is backfiring in a major way.
Briana’s Twitter account has been a source of controversy practically since she opened it, but this new update might be what sets fans entirely over the edge. In fact, many are begging MTV to fire her from the show after her recent joke involving suicide.
After finding the corpse of a suicide victim in Japan’s Aokigahara forest, Youtuber Logan Paul posted a video of the dead body. Subsequently, Paul made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The forest is known for being a place that many go to take their own lives. So much so that it has started being called “The Suicide Forest.”
Needless to say, this is an incredibly sensitive topic to suicide victims’ families and Japanese culture alike, which is why Paul was blasted for his decision to air the footage. Clearly Briana DeJesus didn’t learn from Paul’s mistakes, as she is getting in on the controversy.
Unlike many celebrities who have taken time to call the Youtuber out for his behavior, Briana seems to find the entire ordeal quite amusing.
At first, Briana simply tweeted that she wanted to visit The Suicide Forest. “Now that my dream is coming true and I’m going to Japan. I just wanna do everything,” she wrote. “Seen this movie awhile ago @theforestisreal and always found it to be so interesting.”
Even that alone was enough for fans to find odd, like Twitte ruser @Johnny9Jimmy. They wrote, “You are messed up in the head. Get evaluated!”
After that, it seems Briana watched Logan Paul’s video. Instead of finding it upsetting like many others, Briana thought it was funny.
“My sister just made me watch a video of a whole bunch of boys going into the Suicide forest to explore and Wow men are p*ssies lmao,” she said alongside crying emojis. “Funniest crap I’ve ever seen.”
That’s when fans went off on her. Twitter user @kymhill17 wrote, “Seriously I think you should stop and consider how you would feel if this was one of your family members who had gone [email protected] forest to end their life. It’s not a tourist attraction.” User @vmeng80 raged, “So f*ckin disrespectful. Your mad extra and for what? You laugh at everything like it’s funny.”
“Get her off the show NOW!”
“You’re not only ignorant, but dumb af for hyping up your ‘exploration’ into a forest people HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE IN,” wrote @yoitsjennnaaa. “I can already tell you’re going into it thinking you’re ‘ghost hunting’ and that’s disrespectful af. It’s not something to be excited about.”
That’s when some began to beg MTV to pull Briana off of Teen Mom 2. User @lexhex311 wrote, “@MTV get her off the show NOW!!!! This is absolutely disgusting.”
As for Briana’s response… She seems completely unbothered by the hate. She has since deleted the tweet, but she then seemingly defended herself, meaning she didn’t understand what she had done wrong.
“If u know me you know I love different kinds of food and haunted crazy sh*t… ? lol,” she tweeted.
Her defense got her in just as much criticism from users. User @LauraJeanB87 tweeted, “And if your going, then so be it, but don’t post on social media about how ‘hype’ you feel about it. It’s just not right and we don’t want anyone feeling like it’s a cool thing to do. Mental illness is a very real serious issue.”
