We don’t know much about Amber’s bother Shawn, but Matt seems to think that he really knows what’s going on between them.

When Matt got angry about Amber taking her brother’s advice about not eloping in Las Vegas, Matt said, “I’m not marrying her now, ever. She wants to marry her brother! That’s who she wants to marry!”

During the time that Matt was ranting and raving about how he refused to let Amber’s family run his life, he hurled a homophobic slur at Shawn. It’s not known whether Shawn is gay or not.

Matt was able to win Amber’s heart by telling her that he once suffered from drug addiction like her, and they bonded over their struggle. But there has never been any evidence to show that Matt was addicted to anything other than conning people.
