Tyler Baltierra’s family life has not been without struggle. Not only have he and Catelynn Lowell had their share of marital struggles, but Tyler’s immediate family has also been dealing with plenty of drama.
It was recently revealed that Tyler’s father, Butch Baltierra, relapsed, which has been a plot line this season on Teen Mom OG. In April 2018, Teen Mom fans learned that Tyler’s father had gotten sober, but he did not remain on the straight and narrow.
“He’s in the middle of a relapse right now. That’s the reality of that situation right now,” Tyler revealed on Kailyn Lowry’s episode of Coffee Convos.
“So, this season you’ll see me go down there a couple of times. He lives in Austin and he got out of rehab he did his sober living, all that stuff,” the star explained.

The Ashely’s Reality Roundup revealed that Tyler’s sister, Amber, said her father was getting back into his old habits.
“He drinks a couple of beers here and there…He thinks he can manage all this but it will progress into something big again. That’s what this disease does,” Amber wrote on Facebook.
In regards to his father’s relapse, Tyler said they “go back to square one, do this relapse thing and kind of ride this train out and see what happens.”
So fans have now watched the drama unfold, but on the Teen Mom reunion that aired Monday night, Dr. Drew had some choice words for Tyler.
According to the recap by Us Weekly, Dr. Drew dove right in and asked about Butch missing the birth of Tyler and Catelynn’s youngest daughter.
Dr. Drew pointed out that the struggle with addiction is not easy, and can result in the person having to go to rehab, jail, or loss of life.
“You have to prepare for that and be realistic about that,” the host said to Tyler and Catelynn.
“I think he wants it. Dad, listen. Regardless of what happens, I will not give up on you. Period. Ever. I understand that may be unhealthy,” Tyler responded.
