The truth is coming out
When the Teen Mom stars first agreed to be reality television stars, they probably had no idea what they were getting into. Although they surely understood that much of their lives would be made public to national viewers, they probably didn’t expect to be starring on the show for nearly a decade and revealing some of the most troubling secrets of their past.
Now this Teen Mom star is doing just that. In this disturbing update, they’re sharing their experience being assaulted when they were only in second grade.
Over the years, the Teen Mom stars have opened up about some of their darkest experiences. Many of them have chosen to share with fans even the most private parts of their lives. The cast has experienced extreme difficulty from abuse to neglect to addiction, and now one star is speaking out about sexual abuse.
Amber Portwood and Matt Baier headed to Marriage Boot Camp in an effort to patch up their ailing relationship. Even though that obviously didn’t go exactly as planned, it’s clear that the show made them dig deep into their pasts. That’s when Matt Baier revealed the abuse he suffered as a young child.
“You really want to do this?” Matt asks host Dr. Ish in what is clearly a tense moment during one of the drills. Dr. Ish replies, “I think you really have to do this,” encouraging Matt to share his past in order to overcome it.
Then Matt spills his trauma. “I got r*ped when I was a child. I was in the second grade, and it was an authority figure.”
The Real Matt
“I went upstairs and sat in my closet until my dad got home. And I heard his key hit the door, so I ran downstairs and I told him, but I didn’t know how to explain what happened. I wanted my dad to beat him up, and he didn’t do that. I think he was drunk, honestly. We never talked about it again after that night… [My dad] left when I was 9, and interestingly, I found out my dad had two other kids I never knew about. I look back now, and I wish I would have told my mom.”
It’s clear that it was difficult for Matt to relive this, and Dr. Ish said, “We finally may be seeing the real Matt for the very first time. ”
