The Teen Mom cast rakes in so much dough that they could never go broke... right? Apparently, this cast member needs cash so badly that they're asking fans for help!
Even though being a reality TV star has its difficulties, there are certain perks that are hard to overlook. In addition to having millions of social media followers and supportive fans, the cast members take home some pretty sizable paychecks for their work being followed around by cameras. So you’d think they’d be pretty secure when it comes to money, right?

The cast members of Teen Mom may have come from humble beginnings, but these days, they’re living large. It’s not hard to see how luxurious their lifestyles are from just a quick glance at their social media accounts. From lavish outings and the newest clothes to pricey plastic surgeries and expensive vacations, it’s clear that they’ve worked their way up from the bottom. Luckily, many of the cast members’ hefty paychecks have been revealed.
Chelsea Houska’s baby daddy Adam Lind was happy to spill the beans on her paychecks.
“Last year was [$250,000] for lil princess,” he wrote on Instagram. “Chelsea’s contract will be up to [over $300,000] for new seasons.”
Jenelle Evans went on the radio in 2015 and revealed that she’d made some serious money from MTV so far. She revealed that she’s made a little bit over maybe half [a million dollars],” but that she’s “not really allowed to discuss it.”
Two years later, it’s likely that Jenelle’s paycheck has only gone up. It was recently revealed that MTV paid Jenelle a whopping $15,000 bonus just so she’d let them film at her wedding!
Maci Bookout even opened up about her paychecks in her memoir Bulletproof. She wrote:
“Reality TV can make you very famous, but you basically get the s**t end of the deal: Everyone knows your name and talks about you, but there’s no red-carpet prestige or glamorous piles of money. Once you become a so-called reality TV star, people immediately think you’re a high-end celebrity and you travel the world and have a mansion and so much money and all these other things they associate with having your face on television. The fact is, my real life isn’t that much different from what it would have been without MTV. I still live in Chattanooga and go to Wal-Mart and buy bread and milk.”
However, Maci has had several pay increases since the year her book was released. She now likely makes as much as her OG sisters.
Amber Portwood revealed how much she was paid during a court ruling, and admitted that she was paid $140,000 per six-month period, meaning she makes $280,000 a year, not including promotions and bonuses. This was back in 2011, so Amber probably makes a good bit more at this point, meaning her new son should be very well taken care of.
Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra recently splurged on a brand new mansion, and if she makes as much as her OG co-stars, it explains why. And if Tyler Baltierra is making even half of Catelynn’s $280,000, the couple will be set for life. On top of that, it’s rumored that the couple made around $100,000 for starring on Couple’s Therapy.
But the cast members didn’t make this much money when they first started on Teen Mom. In fact, not even recent Teen Mom 2 addition Briana DeJesus makes as much as the OG cast.
She allegedly doesn’t even make as much as her ex-boyfriend Javi Marroquin, who has appeared on the show for several seasons. So it’s no wonder that the cast members of MTV’s newest addition to the franchise, Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant, aren’t exactly raking in the dough.
One of the show’s new cast members, Kayla Sessler, even revealed that she took on another job to make ends meet. Next time you’re at an Ulta Beauty store in her area, she might even be ringing you up!
However, not all of the Young and Pregnant stars have turned to a side-gig to make ends meet. Ashley Jones and her baby daddy Bar Smith seem to be so broke that they’re begging fans for money!
“If y’all really love me,” Bar wrote on Instagram, providing a place that fans could send him money. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that fans are going to bite.
“He expects people to just send him money for no reason?! I wonder who really fell for this,” wrote mooncurls31 on reddit. User emsle84 wrote, “Yuck. That’s really embarrassing.” Nutz4reality wrote, “MTV check gone already?”
Some thought that Bar should take a page out of Kayla’s book and get a side job!
“He is going to have to work and get a job for his family. I hate my job but I still have to go, Ashley even stripped why couldn’t he get a 9-5 instead?” wrote BlackDove444. They added, “This world doesn’t owe you anything young man.” User KristySueWho agreed, “Get a job! Even I have one, and I'm a dumb b*tch!”
In the meantime, Bar and Ashley have a full time job cut out for them as they figure out how to patch up their broken engagement.
Ashley and Bar recently announced that they had set a date for their wedding on Instagram. Sharing a picture of them decked out from head to toe in denim, they revealed that their wedding date will be September 29, 2019. Needless to say, fans have many opinions about their announcement.
“15 months away,” wrote reddit user livefromtheland. “That’s plenty of time for them to break up a few times.” User benzarella wrote, “This won’t happen. They will break up and get back together a few times between now and the wedding date before it gets postponed and finally falls off the cliff. It’s pretty clear these two aren’t good together.”
Many fans were pretty pessimistic about what Bar’s controversial mother, Shen, will do at the wedding. “Cannot wait to see what Shen wears to the wedding.. my money is on a white dress,” wrote Pococosa. User GlitzAndGrit theorized, “You know Shen's gonna show up to Bar's bachelor party in some weird reverse Oedipus complex kind of way.”
And, of course, not everyone was a huge fan of the denim. “Who wakes up and decides to wear full denim in their engagement photos?!” wrote HustlinLiaaaah. But victoriacoren disagreed, writing, “I legit think they're pulling off this denim look.”
But apparently it just wasn’t meant to be. Within a week of their save-the-date announcements, it began to seem that all was not well between the two.
Fans started to notice something was awry when Bar and Ashley unfollowed one another on Instagram — and deleted all of their couple photos off of their accounts as well. “Wedding planning is going well i see,” joked reddit user lucillebluth1213. User SweetTchr wrote, “Well this is clear evidence that these two should literally never ever get married.” And apparently their prediction wasn’t too far off the mark.
Soon, the breakup was confirmed from an unexpected source: Bar’s mother Shen.
“He called me saying momma I played my whole family for this b*tch and she played me smh,” Shen spilled on Facebook. “But then he goes on another rant with me i hung up told him When he finds himself and some respect then call I’m over it all. Momma won’t run to his rescue this time.he getting tough love.”
This violence between Ashley and Bar isn’t the first time they’ve gotten physical. Ashley has recently accused Bar of physical abuse! The news came out during an intense Instagram video that Ashley shared after fighting with her man.
“You guys want to know the real about Bar?” she says in the clip, in which she is clearly distraught. “He f*cking beats me! How’s that for real? He and his mom are bullies! He puts his f*cking hands on me and he expects me not to put my hands back on him! His mom put her hands on me and he expects me not to put my hands on her,” she exclaims. “But he beats my motherf*cking a** in this house with my daughter!”
Even though it’s obvious that Ashley was distressed when she filmed the devastating video, not everyone believed it. In fact, her soon to be mother-in-law, Shen, was quick to accuse Ashley of making up all of her claims of Bar’s abuse.
“Ashley is hitting h3rself,” Shen alleged. “And said she is telling police bar did it smh but her fans say im crazy and wrong this is what we deal with.”
The severity of abuse accusations go both ways: the accusations themselves should never be made lightly, but accusing someone of making them up is also a very dangerous thing to do, especially without evidence. Soon, Ashley took to Twitter to refute Shen’s claims.
“Yeah you did see that video of me slapping myself, but I didn’t lie about anything. He does get physical with me often,” she wrote. “But I love him and I stay because I really want things to work ok . Jesus . I would NEVER lie about something like that.” She explained that slapping herself is “something I do every time the pressure gets [too] real and I’m on the verge of loosing [sic] my sh*t.”
Ashley and Shen could no doubt spend days debating these accusations without making any ground… but soon another voice was added to the mix. Shockingly, Bar himself spoke out to confirm that he has gotten physical with Ashley.
“Here y’all go for everyone who’s wondering, yes sometimes sh*t gets physical on both ends but I ain’t no woman abuser and all that extra sh*t,” he wrote on Instagram. “YES we fight but sh*t who doesn’t, it’s all a work in progress but no one has bruises or none like that so please stop trolling everyone. thank you!!!”
However, fans report that in another Instagram live video, Ashley can be heard saying that he doesn’t have to hit her. In the video, Bar reportedly responds, “Well you keep flappin your motherf*cking mouth.” Ashley then allegedly revealed Bar didn’t want her to leave and told her, “Why, so you can call the police?”
The stars all sent mixed signals, but fans seem decided that it’s not a good situation for anyone. “So no bruises means it’s okay? That’s scary. One day it’ll escalate into bruises or even possibly more. & who just puts this out there on social media for the world to see?” wrote reddit user knelso05.
“Bar needs to be off the show,” wrote reddit user BastaniUsername. “I liked him on TM but all this drama spilling out from Ashley is so scary. I'm starting to understand there is a LOT that goes on behind the scenes we don't see. This is a very dangerous situation for Ashley and [their newborn daughter] Holly.”
Ironically, it’s not Bar who seems to be off the show; Ashley and her mother Pastor Tea are the ones who are quitting!
Bar’s mother Shen and Ashley’s mother Pastor Tea recently locked on to each other in one of the longest feuds the franchise has ever seen. It wasn’t long before they took to social media to spread the hate.
“All your kids are criminals,” Pastor Tea wrote at the beginning of the feud. “And the one in jail now was caught on [camera] but you say he innocent,” she said, referring to Bar’s brother who was found guilty of murder.
“You are low class on every level. I grew up in the projects and I never met anyone more trashy than you. All those kids lives you have ruined. Not one have a solid education and you dont either. Anyone dealing with you loves the mess because everyone knows that to pull me out of character…..you have truly crossed the line.”
Then she asked Shen to talk to her face to face. “Shen you been lying on me since day one. You don’t know me and every time Bar asked you to speak with me you tucked your tail and ran. It’s easy to press a 21 year old but you not gone press me. This goes much further than tv. I’m ready to SEE YOU!!! Nuff said.”
She added, “I don’t do this social media stuff. See me in real life. We got some talking to do. Call me Shen. Don’t run. face to face. Tell me where you getting all your lies from because your own son don’t deal with you because of what you done and you not telling folks.” To no surprise, Shen quickly responded via Facebook.
“So I’m confused pastor=your daughter faked [domestic violence] and u find a way to make this about me, naw I’m good,” she wrote, adding:
“When i wanted to talk no one else did but I c what kind of people in dealing with. we will not sit down without attorneys because their behavior is maliciously done from hate and spite. u r capable of anything. focus on the kids getting help and making everything right for holly. I speak truth and real i have proven that.. sorry u disagree but im over it and u. So take the high school behavior to an adult so they can guide u cause this sh*t is real not show.”
Soon after, Shen called for Pastor Tea to be fired from the show! After Pastor Tea referred to Shen as “white trash” and “trailer trash” in an Instagram live update, Shen created a petition to get Pastor Tea fird from the show. She accused the pastor of racism, writing, “The degrading things she said were deplorable. I will not deal with anyone or thing supporting racism. I have spoken my peace [sic] I’m done.”
In the meantime, Pastor Tea’s daughter Ashley was having a hard time with the show as well. She recently revealed that she believes she’s being portrayed poorly by MTV. She was particularly unhappy with an image MTV recently used for promos for Young and Pregnant.
“Can I be the first to say f*cke everyone on [MTV’s] social media team,” Ashley stormed on Instagram. “I love how the other girls are smiling and happy and you choose to post none of those moments for me.” But it’s not just the social media that has her upset.

“The whole season I was edited to look like a monster,” she vented.
“Joining this show was by far the worst decision of my life. All those hours of filming and all the positivity I spread and y’all didn’t show any of it. No trust for the producers or any one else that works on the show and knows the kind of person that I am but says nothing to editing.”
She added, “Also, if you want to see how me and Bar really are, on a daily basis without these edited a** scripted fights. Join my [YouTube] channel @ Ashley Siren.”
She went on, “It’s funny how the black girl is always made to look mad and ignorant.”
Only a few days after Ashley’s rant, her mother Pastor Tea took to Facebook Live to confirm that Ashley called her producers and quit the show.
That said, it’s not the first time that a cast member has claimed they quit, only to go on filming. It’s no wonder that fans aren’t buying it.
“Like she’s gonna pass up the easy money. Isn’t the Bay Area expensive?” pointed out reddit user WittiestScreenName. User Kateyjo50 wrote, “Suuuure. See you next season ladies.”
“Ashley. Instead of quitting, how about you grow some self awareness and redeem yourself? You don’t like the way you were portrayed? Do better. Learn how to handle your baby’s grandmother and co exist,” wrote FrauEdwards.
But not everyone doubted it so much. Some believe that Ashley is off of the show.
“I may be alone here but I could see her quitting. She likely blames the show for ending her 3 year relationship with her baby daddy and now ex-fiance. 3 years is quite a long term relationship at that age,” wrote UckfayRumptay. “She is kind of wrong in that the show only showed her actions which Bar didn't like. But in her mind without the show she could've continued to manipulate things to downplay her actions. So in that sense without the show she wouldn't have had so much, if any, caught on camera and her and Bar may still be together.”
