This Teen Mom star has opened up about a flesh eating disease, and what she had to say was terrifying. She’s taken it upon herself to raise awareness, and we are definitely paying attention.
The last star to opened up about a health condition was Jenelle Evans. In an interview, she detailed her long-term health problems and how she is coping with her diagnosis. The report comes after news of her previous surgeries and hospitalizations.
Jenelle exclusively told HollywoodLife, “With my health, I’ve been dealing with esophageal spasms for years.”
“Every time I would fly in a plane, even today, spasms happen in my chest,” the former Teen Mom 2 star explained. “Food or liquid will not pass through. Then, I throw up an hour into the flight and keep going until I land, which is a four hour flight, usually from North Carolina to Los Angeles.”
The mother of three has had to undergo serious testing, detailing: “I’ve had two endoscopies, two esophagus dilations.” Recently, at her doctor’s recommendation, Jenelle completed a “barium swallow” test. The procedure, a “special type of imaging test that uses barium and X-rays to create images of your upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract,” showed “poor esophagus motility” in the reality star.
Unfortunately, the process is not over for the North Carolina native. “The next step is an esophagus manometry test that lasts for 24 hours,” she revealed. According to Jenelle, “a catheter is put up the nose and down the throat to test wave lengths and acid/PH levels in the esophagus, which will all be recorded onto a small device.”
This time around, Cory Wharton’s girlfriend Taylor Selfridge is opening up about a devastating health condition. She posted on Instagram about a flesh eating disease, and it is very serious.
“The last month has been really difficult for our family as some of you know, my aunt went into the hospital for a sore throat and it turned into a much more serious illness,” she wrote. “She went into emergency surgery for necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease) which started in her hip and spread quickly to most of her body.”
That sounds absolutely horrible! Skin diseases are extremely serious and devasting to a person’s health.
“She is so strong and fought this off!! While we are so grateful she’s still here, she’s lost 3 fingers, one leg below the knee & half of her other foot,” Taylor continued. “This has been devastating for everyone but most importantly her husband and 4 children. Katie will need extensive therapy and a lot of changes have to be made to her home life to accommodate to her disabilities.”
