It’s easy to see how difficult of a relationship Tyler and Catelynn Baltierra have with their first daughter, Carly. After all, they chose to put her up for adoption, but still see her occasionally as her parents will allow.
Now, Tyler is sharing why he’s keeping his distance from her parents.

Recently, Catelynn shared that when Carly is older, Cate would like to share her adoption decision with her.
“When I am older and Carly is in her 20s or 30s, I’m blessed to be able to have a copy of my 16 and Pregnant episode that I can show her to,” Catelynn shared with ET Online.
“I mean, right there is like, I don’t even have to say too much. We can watch it,” she added.”Then I can answer questions that she has because it was so 100 percent real.”
Cate has recently shared that she hasn’t seen Carly much recently because of Coronavirus.

“Like nobody was, you know, flying anywhere, going anywhere. So yeah. That never happened. That didn’t happen this year,” she revealed in an interview with In Touch Weekly.
Luckily, they can stay in touch virtually. “We’ve done a FaceTime, like Novalee and [Carly] FaceTimed,” she shared. “But yeah, like visit-wise, it’s just kind of up in the air until things calm down or people are vaccinated.”
But now, Tyler is sharing he’s keeping his distance.

“It’s hard because I feel like [Brandon and Teresa] don’t want us super-involved,” Cate shared to her adoption counselor Dawn during an episode of TMOG. “Space sometimes feels like the best thing for them, maybe.”
“You have to step into that space and just try to start the communication so that it’s not going to be so insurmountable,” Dawn shared. “Because that’s what it feels like right now. There is a child that you both love tremendously. Everyone knows their position in the relationship right now, but in order to build the relationship with Carly as a person and as an individual, that’s going to require you two to come out of your comfort zone.”

The couple revealed that Tyler has been struggling with this a bit more than Cate.
“I think what bugs you is that you can’t be your true, authentic self without being afraid of…them getting offended or hurt,” Cate shared, adding that Tyler’s communication method is often “loud.”
“It’s gotten me into trouble,” Tyler confirmed. “I feel like every time I get involved, things just don’t go good. I think it’s why it’s the hardest for me … I feel like if I don’t tame down, I risk the relationship with my daughter.”

“I guess I never felt like having anything held over my head — where if I don’t perform the right way, something will be taken. Nothing has even been that important to me … So I feel like this is the only thing I’ve ever had that was like, ‘Oh no, no, no.’ Sh*t, I’m vulnerable as h*ll,” Tyler shared.
He even considered speaking up.
“I should probably say something,” he told Catelynn, who agreed.
But then he retracted, sharing, “I think it’s safer not to. I don’t want to mess anything up for you. I’m good. I don’t know what else to say.”
What do you think of their decision?
