After the Stoneman Douglas shooter in Parkland Florida killed seventeen students and faculty members, gun control and rights have been a huge topic of discussion. The political world often comes up among the Teen Mom cast, and many of the cast members have weighed in with their opinions on the matter. In fact, some of them have gotten quite the backlash over their opinions.
Now, Briana DeJesus is weighing in with another take that has fans abuzz, and many of them very upset.
In reaction to the Stoneman Douglas shooting, American legislatures have suggested numerous ways to make guns a safer space. As gun rights activists and lobbyists battle with politicians and friends of the victims, there are many suggestions that seem they could work and many that seem a bit odd. Among these is an idea discussed by President Trump himself: the concept of arming school teachers with weapons of their own in case of an active shooter.
Although much of this discussion is happening in Washington D.C., the people it will affect are the students and parents themselves. Among these parents is Briana DeJesus, whose daughter Nova is currently an elementary school student. She recently weighed in with her thoughts on the matter.
“I have a child of color and knowing 10 teachers in her school will carry a gun terrifies me,” she tweeted. But that’s not the end of Briana’s rant.
“Stupidest thing ever to give teahers guns… what’s the point of having Safety patrols on campuses then??? Ugh that p*sses me off.. Spending all that money that can go somewhere else.. What in the flying f*ck? 500 bonus for those who are armed in school?????” she raged.
“As a parent I know I won’t be able to protect my kids every second of the day,” she went on. “And I would want their teachers to luv and protect like I would but giving teachers guns just isn’t right and spending 67 mill is crazy. They won’t ever spend 67 mill on education but for guns..it’s ok?” she signed off with “Ok I’m [done] forreal now lol.”
Fans had mixed reactions about Briana’s rant, and they sounded off on reddit. “I would pull my child out of a school SO fast if I heard that the teachers were armed,” wrote user omgcow. User cetacedm wrote, “Never thought I’d be saying this, but I agree with Briana’s stance.”
“100% agree with her,” wrote user candleandmeatloaf. “Guns do not belong in schools. Period. I would be scared for my own child and also recognize that children of color are statistically more likely to become victims.”
