Ryan has been getting into trouble since fans were first introduced to the troubled father. Now, his legal drama just gets worse and worse. Is he headed for jail this time?
After Farrah Abrahamwas fired from Teen Mom OG, MTV used footage of Ryan Edwards and his new wife Mackenzie Standifer to fill more time in the show.
Fans were first introduced to Ryan in the 16 and Pregnant pilot. He is the father of Maci Bookout’s first child, Bentley. And it’s not hard to see why he has been featured on the franchise since the beginning. Ryan brings nothing but drama!
His custody tug-of-war with Maci was one of the focal points of the season. And toward the end of the season, Mackenzie even revealed that she was pregnant with Ryan’s second child!
According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Ryan and Mackenzie could not stay quiet about the new baby. It turns out that they were sharing their news backstage while the Teen Mom OG reunion was filming in New York.
“That’s when most of the cast and even some of the crew found out Mackenzie was pregnant,” the source revealed. The source shared that Mackenzie is due around the same time that Chelsea Houska is!
Even with a baby on the way, Ryan refuses to grow up. As allegations of Ryan’s terrible drug habit started surfacing, he was being pressured to go to rehab by Maci; it seems like his parents and fiancée weren’t taking as much initiative.
Ryan did check himself into rehab in late May 2017, but he married Mackenzie in an expedited ceremony just days before.
Ryan told his mother about his strange wedding: “It don’t matter if there are a hundred people or two people. It just matters as long as we love each other. It just matters as long as we love each other. Just think it’s best for Bentley.”
Though Makenzie did her best to shut down any negativity about the wedding, it stirred up a huge controversy last May when Ryan was filmed driving high on the way to the ceremony. Mackenzie noticed something was wrong with her fiancé right before their (first) wedding.
When she realized Ryan was swerving, she tried to straighten out the wheel. Then she asked, “Why are you swerving?”
Ryan responded, “My eyes, babe, in the sunlight I can’t keep ’em open.”
Mackenzie asked if he was on Xanax, but Ryan insisted he wasn’t, telling her, “I put that on my kid’s life.” Fans were outraged that MTV had filmed Ryan driving under the influence.
But now it seems that they will avoid future controversies: Ryan and Mackenzie will no longer be a part of the OG cast. The couple confirmed the update to People.
“We’re not returning to Teen Mom OG this season,” Mackenzie spilled in the interview. However, she claims that it was MTV’s decision.
“The network [MTV] told us they don’t want to show Ryan as a recovering addict,” Mackenzie said. She added that MTV “did want to enter a contract with our unborn baby and have the baby film with Ryan’s parents so it would look like someone else is raising it.”
Mackenzie went on, “They want to talk about us but they don’t want to pay us and film us.” Mackenzie claimed that Maci was in on the decision, threatening not to film unless Ryan and Mackenzie were off!
According to Mackenzie, Maci told MTV that she wouldn’t film unless Ryan enters rehab again and quits the show. Mackenzie and Ryan shared more details about their departure from MTV with E! News. “[MTV wants] to take Maci’s word on how I’m doing,” Ryan said. “Maci’s said she’s not going to film unless I enter rehab again and quit the show. But I’m sober.”
Mackenzie claimed, “They’re writing us out of the show right now and making it seem like we dipped out on our baby, on Bentley and on everyone. And that’s just not the case.”
Though Maci has tried to force Ryan into rehab for his addition, it wasn’t until recently that Ryan started to face legal repercussions for his drug use. To his dismay, this also meant that Maci refused to let him see or spend time with his son, Bentley, without supervision.
Only a few months ago in late April, Maci finally had proof that Ryan was lying when he insisted that he was clean. Ryan was busted by cops driving with a significant amount of heroin in his possession.
According to a citation from Red Bank City Court in Tennessee and published by Radar Online, 30-year-old Ryan Edwards was pulled over at traffic stop because he had an expired tag. One officer noticed that Ryan had an open backpack in the passenger seat with hypodermic needles inside.
“I asked Edwards if he had any medical conditions and he replied, ‘No,’” the citation published by Radar reads. “I then asked why he had a hypodermic needle in his backpack and he replied, ‘I don’t know.’ I told them that the vehicle will be searched and he should inform me if there are more and Edwards replied, ‘Yes, probably.’”
When the vehicle was searched, police found fourteen hypodermic needles in Ryan’s possession. One of them was loaded with heroin, and there was also a “bag tied in the center console with a dark substance inside,” reports Radar. When the police officer asked what it was, Ryan replied, “It’s heroin and I have a problem.”
Officers also found two silver spoons with residue as well as a scale. Ryan was in possession of 1.8 grams of heroin.
Ryan wasn’t arrested, but he was issued a misdemeanor citation for simple possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ryan pled guilty and was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail. However, his sentence was suspended for his payment of $750 and good behavior. Ryan was then ordered to take drug screenings for six months.
He was arrested on March 27th for “petition to revoke” after he failed a January 2018 drug test. After this incident, Maci and Taylor both took out restraining orders against Ryan because of violent threats he made on drugs.
Now, fans are experiencing something of deja vu. On July 23, Ryan was arrested and booked with no bond once again. He was “Booked on Previous Charge or Other Reason” in his home state of Tennessee.
According to The Ashley's Reality Roundup, Ryan’s charge was listed as “possession of controlled substance.” His court date is set for August 6th.
Radar obtained the arrest warrant, which revealed that he missed a May 21st court date.
A source revealed, “When officers showed up at this house to arrest him, he tried to argue and almost ended up fighting a police officer.”
The Red Bank Police Department placed him in Hamilton County Jail where he will remain with no bail until his court date on August 6th.
Fans were quick to sound off about this update. “Jesus f*ck,” wrote user PygmyFists on reddit. “Somebody needs to f*cking help him. His family and Mack aren’t doing him any favors. Somebody really needs to step in, and help him get better. Idc if they put him in jail or rehab or whatever the fuck. Ryan needs help.”
Ironically, Ryan’s arrest comes merely one day after he posted on Facebook to allege that he was fighting his addiction.
“I will never stop speaking out against this horrible disease! It consumes your life and turns you into someone even you don’t know. I’m asking you to never give up. Each day is a struggle. I’ve made mistakes and I have really messed up in the past but there is so much hope ahead and it doesn’t mean I can’t change the future,” Ryan wrote on Facebook.
He went on, “Don’t take everything you see on MTV as factual truth. They don’t want to show me or Mack in a happy light or that I am active in my recovery. I AM. They want to make me look angry, passive aggressive and uncaring regarding things that mean the most to me. I’m done taking their sh*t and letting the world believe this by standing up for myself. You’re believing a lie. And soon… very very soon, you WILL see the TRUTH behind the LIAR.”
Ironically, despite the proof that Ryan has fallen back into his addiction, his wife Mackenzie continues to publicly deny it. Right after this drug bust, she told Radar that everything was “fine.”
“He took a drug test yesterday and passed,” she said a day after the arrest. Fans seem convinced that she’s either in denial, or trying to cover up his addiction.
“And Mack never saw one of these 14 car needles floating around???” wrote reddit user JesusGodLeah219.
User _AnnieAdderall pointed out, “I know addicts can be really good about hiding what they do… but Ryan doesn’t sound like one of them. He has all this stuff in his car and he’s lugging around a scale in his backpack and Mackenzie had no idea?…”
Though he is not personally defending him, Nashville based criminal defense attorney Ben Raybin told Hollywood Life that Ryan is facing over 11 months just on his most recent heroin charge. But once his suspended and his probation are factored in, he is facing 2 ½ years in jail!
