During troubled times, sometimes kicking back and catching up with your favorite reality show can take your mind off things. It can be easy to forget that the cast members of the show are just as risk of being affected by a pandemic as anyone else.
Unfortunately, Amber Portwood's first baby daddy Gary Shirley is proving this. He's now sharing that his mother was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Although many people around the world are able to stay home from work and school to help flatten the curve, not everyone is so privileged. Many "essential workers" are not receiving any compensation for staying home, and must report to work in order to make ends meet.
Among them, it seems, is Gary Shirley's mother.
Now, he's opening up about her upsetting diagnosis.
"This Mother's Day is a little hard because my mother is very sick," Gary shared via Instagram. "A week ago she was diagnosed with Covid-19. her line of work puts her at a higher risk since she was working in activities and house keeping at an assisted living facility."
He went on, "my wife and I have been trying to help by dropping off food (curbside) so she could focus on getting rest. We haven't hugged her in about 3 months & we haven't had her over inside our home about 3 months. This has been extremely hard for all of us."
Gary explained, "Our youngest daughter has an immunodeficiency disorder where she gets sick so easily so we have stayed home and took this quarantine very seriously. We have had to go to store[s] a few times (kid free of course) however, I knew my mother would be exposed at some point due to her job which was very worrisome itself."
He continued:
"Now, with a confirmed case of covid-19 we are worried more and limited on what we can do to help. She has good days and of couse bad days like today. Her and Jody live together and I knew it would only be a matter of time before he would get it, and of course.... I believe he has it now. He has the symptoms, but hasn't had the test yet."
Gay wrapped up, "So I will be dropping off breakfast in the morning on the porch and wishing her a Happy Mother's Day while praying for her. All prayers are welcomed and much appreciated. Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful mothers and a BIG Happy Mother's Day to my amazing wife."

Kailyn Lowry Reveals Frightening Complications in Her Fourth Pregnancy
By the time you're pregnant with your fourth child, most would think you're a pro at pregnancy. But the truth is that every pregnancy is different, and whether it's the first or the tenth, there can be complications.
Kailyn's pregnancy is coming along, but now she's opening up about her health concerns.
As fans will remember, Kailyn Lowry suffered a miscarriage when she was married to Javi Marroquin. The couple was going to announce her pregnancy in their Christmas card, but Kailyn’s pregnancy ended up not being viable.
This could be a reason why she waited so long to confirm her pregnancy this time around. Before she was able to share the news herself, someone close to her leaked the story: Chris Lopez’s aunt! Kailyn and Chris’s relationship hasn’t exactly been a romantic love story before or after Kailyn gave birth to their child, Lux.
“Wanna give a big congratulations to @kailynsfamily on the new addition [due] july 25.. Cant wait to meet baby number 2 for us- 4 for her,” wrote his aunt. The nails in the photo clearly matched up to Kailyn’s nails on her Instagram back in December, and thus the speculation began.
It felt like ages had passed before Kailyn finally confirmed the pregnancy earlier this week! She spilled the news in a partnership with a company called Peanut.
"We’re confirming the news, baby #4 is coming soon! 🎉" she shared.
She went on:
"I’m almost 16 weeks pregnant & it’s been a rough few months this time around. I've had nausea, morning sickness, and absolutely no energy. 😭 This week I’m starting to feel a bit better and I'm really hoping it stays this way!🤰🏻@Peanut has been an amazing support for me since I found out I was pregnant again. Going through nausea and morning sickness while trying to keep the news a secret can be quite isolating. There are so many helpful threads on the app from other women who have been through it too. It's always reassuring to know you're not alone. Whether you're already a mom, pregnant, or trying to conceive, I really recommend you join the @peanut community. It's an amazing space to build friendships, find support and learn from other women at a similar stage in life. There's nothing like support from other women to get you through. ❤ #Peanutapp."
Soon after the confirmation, Kailyn revealed she has been experiencing subchorionic bleeding, something that has occurred in previous pregnancies, including her miscarriage.
“I had this with Lux & I have it again this time around,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “Anyone else experience this?”
According to her post, the bleeding is painless and usually occurs in the first trimester. Later on Twitter, Kailyn revealed more about her condition.
“Progesterone shots every week again,” Kailyn tweeted. “Anyone else have this?”
Now, she's sharing more concerns as well.
She shared the news via an Instagram update.
"Baby Boy & I are coming up on 29 weeks & so thankful to be in our third trimester! He still doesn't have a name, but this is the chaos, it's how we do things."
She added,
"He is currently breech, so hopefully he decides to turn soon, because we're running out of room! He's moving a lot more these days and likes to keep me up at night. Physically, this has been a really easy pregnancy, but it is getting a little harder to hold Lux, no real complaints. Emotionaly, this has probably been my toughest pregnancy. We've been keeping busy at home - planning and decorating his nursery, I can't wait to show you the finished product!"
She signed off, "Do you think he'll turn or stay breech?"
Fortunately, having a breech pregnancy this early is not uncommon, and there's a very good chance her baby will still turn.
Fans sounded off about this update on reddit.
"~tHiS iS tHe ChAoS~" wrote user Copcardramatics. "Give it a rest Kail. Not having a name for a baby at 29 week isn't 'chaos', conceiving him while you had a PFA out on his Dad is."
"She has 10 weeks left, not that chaotic to be breech. They’re still turning like crazy at that point. Ugh, she is just using that scary term to get attention," wrote user GirlsesPillses.
User redemption_arc chimed in, "A pandemic is chaos. Not knowing what to name your 4th child on-the-way during an age of abundant family planning measures at your disposal, plus the fact that you’re wealthy and have education and access to ALL of them is, in comparison, quite orderly, systematic, calm, normal, and quiet - all the opposite of chaos."
