They'll complain about anything
People can be so cruel when they're typing from the safety and comfort of their own homes; they seem to forget that the people they're bashing are real and have feelings. Briana DeJesus hasn't been on Teen Mom 2 for very long, but she's already receiving a ton of backlash for what she told her own daughter about her hair. But her co-star is here to tell her to forget the haters and go on being a good mom.
Puerto Rican Princess
Briana's inclusion on Teen Mom gives viewers a new perspective because she's not caucasian like the rest of them. She also hasn't been earning the money that the other girls have over the years, so we get to witness a more realistic single mom with two kids in her early twenties.
Briana is of Puerto Rican descent and lives with her mother and sister (her sister was pregnant at the same time as Briana but opted for an abortion). Latin teen moms are far more likely to be single than white teen moms, and her first daughter Nova is biracial (her father is black).
Nova is beginning to understand that she looks different than those around her, and she talked openly about it with her mom.
Straightened Curls
On the latest episode of Teen Mom 2, we saw Briana talking to her seven-year-old daughter Nova about her looks. Nova wanted to have straight hair like "white girls," so Briana straightened her hair. Some people reacted to the conversation negatively while others stated that this is a true slice of life that needs to be shown.
Redditor cuzimagypsy said about the scene, "That convo they had about Nova wanting straight hair is a convo that happens in a lot of households in the POC community and I'm glad it was aired. Because thats an issue we dont see with any of the other moms in either series. It gives a little insight on the different things we as 'colored' girls go thru. Growing up I wanted straight hair and lighter skin, I asked my mom to straighten my curls too. Its nice to see something I can relate to. A lot of woman of color go through this and we are raising daughters that feel the same way as Nova at some point, so I it was nice to see them acknowledge her feelings about that and reassure her that her skin and curls are beautiful!"
Backlash
The fans that were upset about Briana's comments about "white girls" really lashed out at her, but she was just trying to explain that Nova's hair is simply different than most white people's hair.
Briana said on Twitter, "I'm not racist, my number one thing on my bucket list is to marry a white boy anyways. People way to sensitive, white is white to kids, black to my 3 year old is brown... they don't know race negativity unless you teach it."
She continued trying to lighten the mood by saying, "Lol why am I still getting heat for saying white girls... I'm sorry my daughter doesn't understand 'caucasian girls.'" That's when Chelsea came to her defense...
Rip You Apart
Knowing how people can misconstrue everything, Chelsea watched this back and forth happen, and reached out to Briana, saying, "Welcome to being back on tv lol... people will literally rip apart anything you say. They always gotta find something!"
Chelsea has been antagonized about so many aspects of her life, but she's able to shake it off better than some of the other moms. Wanting to keep negativity away is probably the reason why she wouldn't allow MTV to film her wedding in 2016.
Thick Skin
Chelsea is so happy in her life right now that she's considered leaving the show to live a more private life, but the money is so good that she will hang on for as long as she can.
