For years, fans have leveled major accusations against Jenelle Evans and her now-husband, David Eason. They’ve been accused of a host of illegal activities and even of mistreating their children.
It’s not likely that Jenelle and David would ever own up to these accusations if they’re true, but now there are others speaking out who see the situations firsthand. Could the behind-the-scenes crew and production staff reveal what’s really going on with Jenelle and David?
Ever since she first began filming for Teen Mom 2, Jenelle has been a pretty controversial public figure. She’s one of the biggest faces of the Teen Mom franchise, but sometimes her notoriety outweighs her fame.
Now, it looks like she may be facing some legal difficulties that she can’t come back from.
Be sure to keep reading to watch some of Jenelle’s most controversial moments!
Like many of the Teen Mom stars, Jenelle Evans is a pretty divisive character. In short, you either love her, or you hate her. From the very beginning, she’s made some pretty controversial decisions, from the moment that she signed custody of her son Jace over to Barbara at the beginning of Teen Mom 2.
When she was still young, it was clear that Jenelle had some bad decisions she needed to get out of her system. She spent years of her life locked in her party girl phase, and she lost favor with many fans who thought she put her boyfriend, Kieffer, above her son Jace. Soon, Jenelle started to make more and more of an effort to be in Jace’s life, eventually taking Barbara to court to attempt to get custody of him back.
But Jenelle wasn’t done making wild decisions. She soon had a series of inflammatory boyfriends, including Nathan Griffith and Courtland Rogers, and she wracked up a pretty hefty criminal record. But it wasn’t until she started dating David Eason that fans thought she was finally putting her crazy days behind her.
Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long! Although David was adored by fans at the beginning and even got along swimmingly with Barbara, he soon became one of the most divisive members of the Teen Mom cast. In fact, his behavior eventually got him fired from the show!
MTV had enough after David spent a length of time voicing his homophobic and transphobic views on Twitter.
“Lmao why don’t you go tell the homo and transgender parents to start teaching their kids better morals? Oh I forgot thats supposed to be normal,” David wrote in a recent tweet which followed months of bigoted comments from the star.
When one fan asked, “Who are you to say what’s normal or what’s moral? Are you going to teach your children to hate gay and transgender people?” David revealed that he plans to raise Jace, Kaiser, Ensley, and Maryssa to be homophobic and bigoted.
“No, Im going to teach them not to associate with them or be that way…” he said. “If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.”
When fans accused him of being homophobic, he said, “Never said anything about being scared [of] homos,” he wrote. “Homophobic? You really lost it now, im not scared [of] s**t especially a homo.”
Fans lashed out in reaction to this and even began circulating a petition to get David fired. It gained over 9,000 signatures, and it seems MTV agreed with the sentiment.
“David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him,” read a statement by MTV released Feb. 20, 2018.
But lately, the accusations have gotten even more intense. Jenelle and David have come under fire as fans start to suspect they may be exhibiting abusive behavior toward their children… or even to each other!
The rumors came to a head during last season of Teen Mom 2 when David and Jenelle’s photoshoot for their wedding save-the-date got extremely heated.
When the episode aired we got a look at what happened behind-the-scenes of Jenelle and David’s adorable save-the-date picture… though when the producers showed up to film the photo shoot the first time, they were sent off of the property.
“He’s arguing for hours,” Jenelle told a producer in a text. “This is bull s**t, he keeps putting me down. He won’t stop.”
Soon after, the producers were told to leave. “David said ‘if you don’t leave my house you will be escorted by police,’” a producer explained. “’You will have five minutes before I call.’” Another producer chimed in, “Now he’s saying he’s going to call the police on us?”
The producers returned the next day, and Jenelle told them that the fight was simply because they were both in “a bad mood.” Meanwhile, David insisted that they had never fought in the first place.
“We weren’t fighting,” David said while Jenelle fed Ensley without speaking. “Who told you that? Were we fighting yesterday? Nope, you’re lying. Everything is great around here. You don’t have to worry about problems.”
Many people took to Twitter to discuss their reactions to the footage. Jenelle instead turned to Instagram to share her reaction ― including the fact that she now plans to leave the show at the end of this season. The star wrote:
“Yes, me and David have our ups and downs, but yesterday’s episode was uncalled for. Because David didn’t feel like explaining another argument or drama on camera they make it look as if David is hiding some weird a** sh*t from the public as if he was hurting me in some way?!
She added, “I have decided after this season I’m probably calling it quits for filming this show. I told Morgan it’s getting to [sic] out of hand and it’s not healthy for us anymore, just harming us mentally. They treat all of us as if we are in a freak show and in cages. WE aren’t human beings to @mtv what-so-ever.”
She included images of her with and without marks on her arm, saying that someone had photoshopped them.
“The first screenshot of the custody episode someone posted photoshopping a hand mark on my arm. The other screenshots are pictures I’ve taken myself from the same episode… and there aren’t any hand marks. Once they treat me with respect I’ll be back, if they don’t I’ll be happy with the life I’ve got. I told them this last night.”
She added, “#MarriedLife #MIA.”
Recently, fans have been more and more concerned about Jenelle and David’s treatment of each other and their children, and many fans have even wondered if CPS should get involved! During a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, some even believed David and Jenelle could have been drinking and driving with their children in the car!
During the episode “Unicorn Poop,” Jenelle and her family head out on a ski trip to celebrate her birthday. She has her hands full with her three children Ensley, Jace, and Kaiser, as well as her step-daughter Maryssa. But she and David are used to having their hands full raising their kids, so they packed up the car and jetted off on their trip. Although things started off well, it didn’t take long before tensions started to rise.
During the breakfast scene the following morning, fans were shocked by how high David’s temper seemed to be with his step-children.
“The weekend was going great, but last night, the kids were acting up and we didn’t get any sleep,” Jenelle explains in the voice-over. “We were planning to do something fun before we went home today, but David and I are exhausted.”
“These kids are f*cking driving me nuts,” David says while cooking breakfast. “They’re about to go to their bedrooms to take a nap. ‘Cause ever since I woke up, they’ve been running around, like, going crazy.”
In the next room, Kaiser appears to be playing on the couch. “I don’t understand what his problem is!” Jenelle exclaims.
After Jenelle and David get upset with Kaiser for spilling his juice, Kaiser says that he has to “go poo.”
“No! You already did this morning!” Jenelle exclaims, but Kaiser says, “I’m going to poop in my pants.”
David is not having it. “If you poop in your pants, you’re going to be in big trouble mister. You just went to the potty. Stop it. Eat your food.”
David and Jenelle clearly seem at their wits end. After David tells Jace and Maryssa to stop playing on the steps, they start doing it again a moment later. Jenelle is ready to go. “We’re going home,” she says. “We’re just going home. You just told them to stop.”
Once the married couple manages to get all of their children in the car, it’s clear that they’re in sour moods.
“Why do they have these cameras in here?” David asks as Jenelle starts taking them down. “We’re not doing anything or going anywhere, ‘cause the kids have not earned their stay. They have ruined their welcome. So it’s over, you guys. We’re going home ‘cause you don’t know how to f*cking act right.”
He starts sarcastically clapping and says, “Give yourself a pat on the back! Are you happy now? ‘Cause you better be. This is the way it’s going to go from now on when you don’t act right. Take your a** to the house.”
After the episode aired, fans took to Twitter to share their concern about the Easons’ behavior. In fact, they called on MTV to intervene!
“I don’t understand how @MTV producers watch the abuse and do NOTHING to help the kid when David does this crap!” one viewer tweeted. Another wrote, “#TeenMom2 why aren’t your producers doing anything to stop the verbal/mental abuse and look further into physical. THIS IS SICKENING!”
But reality gossip site The Ashley’s Reality Roundup went directly to the source and asked several members of the crew what really goes on behind the scenes. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the crew doesn’t have as much control as fans might think.
“It’s not illegal to yell or scream at your kids, so, even if we don’t agree with how [a cast member] is parenting, we can not call the cops for something like that,” one member of the crew told The Ashley. They added, “We can’t step in if that’s how someone parents.”
They went on to say:
“I think fans sometimes have unrealistic expectations for [the film crew and producers]. Just because we are present for whatever is happening, we have no legal authority to do anything in terms of taking the kids away or having the parent arrested. We have no more authority to do anything legally than someone passing by the scene on the street and witnessing it.”
“There’s nothing that the crew themselves can do. There is an assigned security guard on-set at all times while filming,” the source told The Ashley. “Producers and crew can’t step in, because it is a liability and it could jeopardize the crew members’ safety. If we tried to jump into something, we could get hurt, punched or even killed, depending on the situation. The security team is trained to handle this.”
But if they do see anything extreme, they’re supposed to report it.
“We are required to report anything we see to the higher-ups [producers] who will tells us what to do and handle it from there,” the source told The Ashley. “This would include anything we see that is illegal happening—drug use, for instance, or assault, child abuse, etc.”
Shockingly, another source informed The Ashley that they have had to call the police in the past.
“We’ve called the police on cast members over the years, and let the cops handle the situation,” the source said. “We have also called CPS on cast members plenty of times when we see things in regard to the children that don’t seem right. Viewers don’t see everything. They would probably never know that’s happening behind the scenes. The cast member may not even know it was us, to be honest.”
But then they have to let it go: “Once CPS is involved, though, it’s out of our hands,” they said. “We’ve done our job to report it, and they have to take it from there to investigate.”
“We are a docu-reality series,” the first source revealed. “We document things as they happen no matter how bad. Even still, most of the producers would probably have security step in if a parent began physically abusing a child in front of them. The producer wouldn’t physically do it, but they would have the trained security team take action.”
They added that the producers will also get involved if something life-threatening happens while they’re present.
“We, of course, aren’t just going to let someone die,” the source said.
For fans who watch Teen Mom OG in addition to Teen Mom 2, there’s one scene that may quickly come to mind after this claim: the moment that Ryan Edwards was filmed driving high on the way to his own wedding. But the crew members had an explanation for that as well.
“The reason the producers didn’t stop Ryan from driving after he was seen nodding off is because the producers would not have been able to see him nodding off,” a crew told The Ashley. “That footage (and almost all car footage) is captured on Go-Pro cameras installed on the dashboard. We do not have a live feed to watch the cast in their car, despite what some viewers think. We do not have live eyes on them the whole time we’re filming them.”
When it comes to driving under the influence, Jenelle and David are also facing those accusations!
“Jenelle and David drinking and driving?” wrote reddit user cuziamgointobeFAMOUS. They attached images of Jenelle and David’s car, as well as a shot from inside their cabin rental. In an image from the car, there appears to be an empty glass bottle sitting in the cup holder. In the image from the cabin, it’s clear that Jenelle and David have a case of Corona beer. Fans were shocked about what this image could possibly be implying.
“I wouldn't doubt it at all. They don't mind putting themselves or their kids in blatant danger,” wrote user Kiwixo92.
User Alberoba wrote, “Wasn't it obvious that the ‘kids were acting up last night and we are tired’ was only a poor excuse for their hangover?” Lyst83 even accused, “Not at all surprised. I’ve been saying for a while now that I think David is an alcoholic and that he generally hides it from the cameras.”
But not everyone was quick to believe this. Many think that Jenelle and David simply could have been sitting out in the car the night before and drinking while the car was parked.
“Jenelle and David are my least favorite people, but logical me assumes they went out to the car to smoke at night and left a beer in there. Done it many times,” wrote A_unique_username09. User Floflo80 pointed out, “they knew this trip was being filmed, I don't think they would leave a beer in the car like that. At least put it in a to-go cup!”
Many also pointed out that Jenelle and David have taken a massive stance against drinking and driving in the past. In fact, Jenelle was furious with Barbara for trying to drink after having a glass of wine, and filmed her doing it! “Aren’t these the people that recorded Babs having a glass of wine? And flipping out because she had Jace and was about to drive home?” wrote TrashcanJan. After the incident, Jenelle even filmed about it for last season of Teen Mom 2.
