This has been a rough year for the women of Teen Mom. Giant life events have happened to almost all of the MTV cast members. However, nothing is more difficult than the death of a loved one. After a long and difficult battle with cancer, this Teen Mom star has passed away as on Monday, Dec. 9. The family revealed this tragic news in an Instagram post, where they were able to revel in her life. Naturally, everyone is heartbroken about the news coming, especially with Christmas right on the horizon — even the show’s fans sent condolences.
There have been plenty of tragedies on Teen Mom throughout the years. From miscarriages to divorce to arrests to the death of loved ones, it never gets easier for family members or fans. It seems like 2019 has been a particularly hard year for the reality TV stars.
This includes Jenelle Evan’s shocking decision to finally divorce David Eason (who, as you might remember killed her dog).
“I’ve lived my life on camera since I was 17 years old. And a lot of it hasn’t been pretty. But its been my life,” she wrote on Instagram. “Like anyone else I want what’s best for my kids and I want to be happy. With time away from Teen Mom I’ve started to look at my life differently and I know I need to make changes.
“I’m starting that now,” she wrote.
There have also been major arrests — like Amber Portwood who was charged with domestic battery earlier this year against Andrew Glennon.
“Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood made him feel like he ‘dropped the ball’ on plans to see fireworks because the roads were blocked….Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood then bashed his character,” the affidavit from the incident states, as reported by The Ashley’s Reality Roundup.
“Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood picked up a machete towards him and [the baby],” the report states. “Mr. Glennon stated he locked himself and [the baby] into the office. Mr. Glennon stated she hit the door with the machete and kicked the door and broke the handle. Mr. Glennon stated that is when he called for help.”
Of course, none of these tragedies can compare to losing a parent.
As fans know, this has been an ongoing fear in Makenzie McKee’s life since January of 2018, when she revealed on Twitter that her mother had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Just a few weeks later, she referred to her mother as the “healthiest person I know”, and she wasn’t wrong — Angie Douthit was a marathon runner, didn’t drink, and didn’t smoke.
“I am so sad. I can barely breathe. I can not lose her. She did ask that I blog her whole journey and make a documentary in case something does happen we will always have that,” Makenzie said. “I know God will use her to speak to others.”
Over the year, her mother’s cancer spread, and in the Teen Mom reunion in September, Angie shared more about her diagnosis.
I’m unique from what my doctors tell me,” she revealed. “I have non-small cell carcinoma in my lungs, which is lung cancer. Stage 4. I also have small cell carcinoma in my lungs, and that doesn’t happen. No one gets both kinds of lung cancer. A nonsmoker, a marathon runner, it’s just blowing everyone’s mind.”
She also revealed that she had ten different tumors in her brain and that it had continued to spread.
“I have a tumor the size of an orange in my right lung that was wrapped around my windpipe,” she said. “There are so many tiny tumors in my lungs, I stopped counting on 40 on this side and just gave up on that side. It’s in my bones, it’s in my liver, it’s all over.”
In August, Angie had to go off chemo due to low blood counts.
According to the emotional Instagram post on Angie’s Instagram, she passed away at 11:37 p.m. last night, Dec. 9, and 11:37 p.m. They shared an image of Angie crossing a race finish line.
The caption began with two bible verses before explaining that “Angie finished her race”.
“Her last days were spent lovingly surrounded by family and friends as they prayed, sang, and shared funny Angie stories,” the caption said.
It continued, stating the marathon runner was devoted to her religion and loved that Instagram allowed her to share her life with others.
“In nearly two years, she never missed her daily post…tomorrow she will. But this is where you pick up the baton and run like she did mighty warrior,” the caption said. “You can choose this day to be like Angie and use your social media engagements to make a difference rather than disaster, to spread love and not hate, and to always be kind.”
It finished with, “We know many people around the world read these posts so drop your city and country name in the comments so we can see where you are!”
Fans from all over the world left their condolences.
“My heart is aching for you all. Sending prayers, love & cyber hugs,” wrote one Instagrammer.
“I am so sad to read this. I genuinely looked forward to her daily posts and they really have made me stop and think and maybe even change,” another fan wrote of her impact. “She was a treasure and will be missed across the world.”
“Oh my I am tearful. I have followed from England - Angie has been and endless source of inspiration and deepened my faith,” commented another.
