Teen Mom fans know no one is perfect. I mean, that’s the whole point of the show right? Well, this Teen Mom star has gotten extremely real about her mental health, and fans are happy she’s being candid.
Plenty of stars are focused on health and safety, a conversation which had Chelsea Houska in the hot seat last week with fans.
On a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, Chelsea opened up about having panic attacks, and Cole DeBoer suggested she see a therapist. Chelsea wasn’t sure about it, but eventually came around to the idea of seeking help.
A fan on reddit posted a recap, alongside their opinions on the episode.
Aubree suggested that “maybe we could go together, mommy!” and that’s where things went awry for fans. Cole and Chelsea seemed uncomfortable with the fact their daughter wanted to go to therapy, and asked “you want to go to a therapist?”
Cole then said, “For what? You guys can just talk to me!”
Fans felt this was an incredibly insensitive way of handling the situation, especially one that was originally framed as a positive conversation surrounding therapy. The original reddit poster also presumed that Aubree telling her mother that she would go with her was probably her way of trying to make her mother feel more comfortable.
“I think it was obvious that Aubree could tell that Chelsea was nervous, but that Chelsea had said it could make her better, so Aubree was offering to go with her to make Chelsea feel more comfortable,” they wrote.
“It was such an insensitive way of handling things. Aubree is trying to help her mom get better and instead it’s being looked at like some out-of-left problem,” the fan concluded about the scene. “It was just really disappointing that they didn’t encourage her act of love and bravery.”
Other commenters saw the situation in another light.
“I saw it completely different. I saw Cole supporting the idea for Chelsea but then thrown for a loop when Aubree said she wanted to go,” they wrote. “I think therapy is good but if my child randomly said they wanted to go, my first thought would be that I missed something and she doesn’t feel comfortable talking to me and I would probably blurt something stupid out like Cole did.”
This time around, Mackenzie McKee is opening up about her mental health on Instagram.
She shared a photo of herself alongside a revealing caption.
“Posting at midnight because insomnia…so much of my life right now I’m confused, I’m broken, I’m sad,” she wrote. “I just don’t understand, but I’m learning. Everyday through this dark tunnel I am learning.”
Fans seemed to love her post, finding it extremely relatable.
“You Me both. My husband I've been with for 10 years I caught him kissing another woman after months of him being awful and mentally abusive to me.. whilst he was living another life,” wrote one commenter. “We will get through this stronger and better. You're not alone.”
“You never know how strong you are until life throws us a massive curve ball,” wrote another. “You will do this and you will get through it but its going to be one of the hardest things you will ever do.”
“I have cried for you every episode. My heart aches so bad for you. I just wanna hug you! You have such a beautiful relationship with your family, your momma in particular, and I cannot imagine what you are feeling,” said a third. “I try to put myself in your shoes and my heart aches so bad. You have such a huge support system, remember that.”
