For all of the intense and often upsetting scenes that take place on Teen Mom, even more happen off camera. When the crews leave and the cameras stop rolling, the cast members don’t stop living their lives. But it’s up to them to share with fans what really happens when they’re off air, and now we’re seeing the dark side of domestic violence allegations that have happened off screen.
Currently, Amber Portwood is in the thick of domestic violence charges brought against her by the father of her second child.
Ever since she first appeared on Teen Mom, Amber Portwood has made it clear that she is willing to fight for anything that believes in, for better or for worse. Her fighting -- both verbal and physical -- has gotten her into a world of trouble, especially when it turns into very serious cases of domestic battery.
But according to Amber, she’s not the only one who’s been violent.
After a convoluted report of fighting and battery, video of the notorious time Amber pulled a machete on her baby daddy was leaked.
The video quickly went viral in the Teen Mom world, and fans were shocked to see the ruthless battle between Amber and Andrew Glennon, all of which took place while their son James was present.
But longtime fans of Teen Mom know that this isn’t the first complicated relationship that Amber has been a part of.
Not long before she started dating Andrew, Amber was dating the notorious Matt Baier. Their relationship was difficult and explosive during the best times and downright scary at the worst. After numerous breakups and makeups, they finally split up after Matt failed a lie detector test about whether or not he’d cheated on her.
After the two parted ways, Amber began dating Andrew, but Matt didn’t stay single for every long. He very quickly married a new woman named Jennifer!
At the time of their wedding, Jennifer defended Matt’s past. “His past has nothing to do with the relationship,” Jennifer told Starcasm. “The life we have now is what we have now. Matt is a wonderful partner, friend and someone who listens. I take a person for who they are today and what they do now.”
And now, only about two years after they got married, Matt’s new wife is opening up about what happened between them!
According to an update by Starcasm, Matt had a child with Jennifer on January 1, 2019. However, as we all know, Matt has a lot of children with a lot of women.
Only a month later on Feb. 19, Jennifer filed for child support from Matt. Now, the couple is in the midst of a divorce.
In the filing, Starcasm reports, Jennifer “asks for full physical and full legal custody of their son,” and indicates that she won’t seek child support from Matt. Which is probably for the best, since he doesn’t have a great track record with paying child support anyway.
In the filing section for “other considerations,” Jennifer checked off the box for “domestic violence,” and wrote in that Matt was also “financially unfit.”
In the meantime, Amber’s most recent ex seems a bit unhinged as well…
'Teen Mom' Star Threatens Crimes Against MTV Executives
Even though it would be nice to believe that Teen Mom is a totally realistic depiction of what the cast members get up to on a regular basis, the truth is that there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. It’s no secret that producers can heavily influence the way that certain conversations go on air and that editors can make some scenes look entirely different from how they really are.
So it’s no wonder that the cast members have had issues with some of the executives’ decisions over the years. But now, one cast member is taking things to the extreme, and threatening to harm them.
When Amber Portwood was arrested for the first time back in 2010, MTV realized that the show just couldn’t go on. Teen Mom was pulled off the air, but that wasn’t the end of things.
The show soon returned with a new name: Teen Mom OG. But there was another change: MTV broke the fourth wall and filmed the producers, camera crew, and showed the way that MTV executives really altered the way certain scenes and life experiences went down for the cast members.
Since that shift, many of the girls haven’t been shy to speak out about the sometimes shady things the MTV executives do behind the scenes to make for good drama. In fact, Chelsea Houska called out the execs just this season for making one of her scenes look totally different.
A scene aired that showed Chelsea and her mother discussing Chelsea’s decision to move away. Chelsea’s mother seems upset, and throughout the scene, Chelsea never comforts her and comes off as annoyed and distant.
“Oh snap. I just cried with [Chelsea’s mom],” wrote a fan on Twitter after the episode aired. “I would be so devastated if my baby moved away.”
Chelsea tweeted back, “I totally understood where she was coming from. But it’s the town I grew up in! AND I’m disappointed they left out a whole entire part of our convo. We hugged it out, and I reassured her over and over it was all going to be just fine.”
But another Teen Mom star’s beef with executives is going even farther as he threatens harm upon them.
Fans haven’t seen much of Amber’s boyfriend Andrew Glennon’s behavior on Teen Mom OG. That’s because his relationship with Amber was so short! Now that it looks like Amber might not return for the next season after her domestic assault charges, we may not see any more of either of them next season either.
Apparently, Andrew took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve for a night of revelry… and posting potentially drunk diatribes to his story. And he threatened to harm the execs by leaking their social security numbers!
“Youv’ve all the personal info and social security #’s of the top mtv/Viacom heads… leaked b4 I wrote this,” he wrote.
If you’re confused by this, don’t worry: so are we.
It seems that Andrew is unhappy with where MTV stands on filming him and Amber, which still seems to be up in the air going into the next season of Teen Mom OG. Luckily, it seems like the MTV execs don’t have much to worry about, given the fact that Andrew probably has no way of getting access to their social security numbers.
