Fans of the Teen Mom franchise are not happy with the show. Teen Mom fans are not happy with the franchise right now, and they want their opinions heard! Some are threatening a boycott of the show. Will MTV listen?
We previously reported that the ratings for Teen Mom OG have been steadily dropping, and this season they might be getting too low for MTV. The network has tried to revamp the series multiple times, by adding Bristol Palin, Cheyenne Floyd, and Jade Cline, but that might not have been enough to save the reality show.
Radar Online reported that Farrah Abraham brought in over a million viewers per episode to Teen Mom before she was fired. Since then, the ratings have continually dropped.
The outlet reported that after Bristol left, the ratings continued to go down. The season premiere only brought in 990,000 viewers, and by the end of the month of June their viewers dropped to just 849,000. By mid-July, only 679,000 people were watching the show.
The last season finale that aired featuring Farrah had ratings of 1,098,000.
Even after the addition of Mackenzie McKee, Radar Online reported that only 693,000 tuned in for her debut.
Farrah told Radar that the show “should be cancelled,” and said “No one is believing the fake story lines.”
“These other parents are super fans of the OG girls and have been fans, planned pregnancy is not what Teen Mom OG was about,” she said. “And now it’s okay to keep planning pregnancies to get on TV? Sad mainly for the children.”
And Farrah may have a valid point…Teen Mom fans are bored!
A user on reddit started a thread titled, “So, when is MTV going to realize that we don’t want to watch this snooze fest anymore? Bring in new drama pllllzzzz.” Commenters had a lot to say in agreement with that statement.
“This is why I actually really like young and pregnant, because at least a couple of them are actual teens going through actual struggles, not rich people going through rich people struggles. They're adults with kids now, nothing really special about them,” wrote one user.
“I can only watch stupid Leah and Tyler and Cate just so much and Macy and Chelsea's life is like watching paint dry. They've all gone the way of the Housewifes. The true drama is all hidden,” wrote another. “Leah had a boyfriend we never even saw and Kail admits she keeps things off the show. It's time we voted them off by not watching.”
Plenty of others agree that they can no longer relate to the struggles of the Teen Mom cast, and feel the show has lost its touch.
“It’s very hard to relate to the teen moms anymore because most of us work for a living and are lucky to get one vacation. Why do we want to watch Kail complaining about how hard it is going out of the country with the kids by herself?” explained a reddit user. “Sounds like rich people problems to me. A lot of us can’t afford any vacation. Very un-relatable to mostly everyone.”
Some fans do love the new drama Jade has been bringing to their televisions. On another reddit thread, fans were happy about this fresh face.
“That scene with the cops got me straight up emotional. It was raw, I felt some type of way and got tears in my eyes,” the poster wrote, referring to last week when Jade passed out. “As someone that suffers anxiety, I felt for her. But I also felt like the show was back to something resembling reality and real drama vs the rich from MTV money lifestyles.”
“This is real life, not new houses, flashy cars, and extravagant vacations,” commented one user. “Jades current life is what we originally watched the show for, the drama, pettiness, and bitterness of it all. I felt her anger.”
