The gloves are off!
If you thought that the Teen Mom OG feud was going anywhere… Think again. The Moms are back in a new interview with E! and they’re throwing shade left and right. From witty to ridiculous to actually kind of sweet... Maci, Farrah, Amber, and Catelynn said it all in the new clip!
Check it out!
Tensions Mount
The cast of Teen Mom OG has been at odds for years now. While the Moms seemed to get along just fine (for the most part) when the show first started, Farrah’s foray into the adult entertainment industry created a rift in the group that never quite healed.
Long Time Coming
Longtime fans of the show will remember that Farrah was to be excluded from the series upon its return to MTV, as the rest of the cast didn’t approve of her… extra-curriculars, if you will.
Who could forget the dramatic scene in which Maci threatened to quit after the producers stepped in front of the camera to tell her that Farrah was back on the project? Great TV.
Anyway, I digress.
Hi, Simon!
The girls shaded each other somewhat subtly over the ensuing year and half. There is clearly tension on social media, during reunions, and during public appearances, but the girls never fully "went there" publicly.
Enter: resident heckler Simon Saran.
The Prize Fight
Farrah’s sometimes-boyfriend took it upon himself to stir the pot. Saran spent much of last season using his Snapchat as a platform to ruthlessly criticize anyone and everyone on TMOG. He would make fun of all the Moms and their boyfriends, baby daddies, parents — literally everyone.
Then, he called Matt Baier a pedophile… And it was officially taken too far for Amber’s comfort. We all know what happened next (if you don't, see the above video... warning: explicit language).
Opening Old Wounds
After the now infamous fight during the filming of the TMOG reunion special with Dr. Drew, the battle lines were drawn. Amber, Catelynn, and Maci were on one side, while Farrah and Simon stood, alone, on the other.
Of course, Amber and Farrah were at the heart of it, but the other women made it clear where they stood both on the day of the fight and on social media in the months following… And (now that the PR machine for TMOG’s new season in ramping up), in interviews.
Packing Punches
It started last week when Catelynn and Amber gave a biting interview to People Now. The duo held nothing back when asked about their controversial co-star saying that she "needs severe counseling," is "not a strong woman," and implied that she is a laughing stock in the industry due to her behavior. Ouch.
Of course, Farrah responded the following day. She told Hollywood Life that she didn’t want to be drawn into the immaturity… Then flung her own insults back at Amber and Catelynn because, I mean, she had to get the last word.
And she did, until this week when they all opened up again.
Maci's Kindness...
All four OGs were present for E!’s new interview and, although the clip is short, it shows all the girls talking about their feelings about the feud and each other. True to form, Maci Bookout McKinney was sweet about the situation, saying that she "want[s] the best for [Farrah]" and adding that Abraham is an integral part of the show’s formula and appeal.
"She does bring something to the show. You know, not everyone’s going to relate to me or Catelynn. The more different stories that can come together, the more relatable we’re going to be to everyone. I just don’t really have a relationship with her," McKinney explained.
Amber and Catelynn's Shade...
Amber took a similar approach — which is weird considering that she gave the interview that reignited it all just last week.
"It’s kind of like, a non-issue—a non-thing—anymore," Amber said of her feud with her costar. Catelynn’s response had a similar "rise above it" theme, but was delivered with 100% more shade than that of Maci or Amber.
"Farrah who?" Catelynn said. "Farrah Fawcett?" she added, and proceeded to talk about "Farrah Fawcett" being dead.
I’ll give her this — the girl can commit to the bit.
And Farrah's last word
Finally, Farrah had her turn (I can’t help but wonder if she insisted on being shown last). She, too, echoed her earlier sentiments. The woman at the heart of it all explained that she "live[s] her life separately" from the other girls, adding that she’s cut her co-stars off because they don’t "fit in" to her personal "happy, healthy environment."
She finished by saying she doesn’t get sucked into their "rounds and rounds of immaturity…"
Sure, Farrah. Keep telling yourself that. I’ll believe it when I see it.
