Custody battles are nothing new to Teen Mom fans. However, this time, a child's safety is at stake! What is going to happen to Baby Kaiser if his dad cannot intervene?
Ever since Jenelle Evans appeared on 16 and Pregnant and gave birth to her first son, Jace, she has attracted attention for her bad parenting. It wasn’t long after her first appearance on the show that she signed custody of her son Jace over to her mother Barbara. Ever since then, fans have debated over the merit of her parenting decisions.
Jace’s dad, Andrew Lewis, has been out of the picture from the beginning. Jenelle's subsequent relationship with Kieffer Delp played out for viewers in the beginning of Teen Mom 2, much to the chagrin of her mother. She later dated and married Courtland Rogers, but they were divorced in the span of only a few months.
After the end of that relationship, Jenelle began dating Nathan Griffith, a part time model, and they quickly moved in together. Jenelle soon gave birth to their son Kaiser. After their engagement ended, she met her current husband, David Eason.
Jenelle’s partying and wild outbursts have had viewers concerned about her and her children from the beginning. It’s not uncommon for the cast members to be criticized for the way that they parent. However, Jenelle has routinely faced accusations that she and David are abusing their children.
In fact, recently Jenelle revealed that CPS has been called on her 20 times from those accusing her of such abuse. Whether these accusations are true or not, her repeat interactions with Child Protective Services have many fans worried about the safety of her children.
But Jenelle has remained firm that the rumors were just that: rumors. She’s insisted that her allegedly jealous and vengeful baby daddy Nathan was simply out to get her, and that “haters” on social media were joining up with him to circulate nasty rumors about her.
However, Nathan is taking his claims seriously. In fact, in September of 2017, his mother Doris Davidson took Jenelle to court to attempt to claim custody of her grandson. She filed an emergency request for full custody of Kaiser, based on the grounds that Jenelle tested positive for marijuana at the time of her daughter Ensley’s birth.
In court documents obtained by Radar Online , Doris leveled some major accusations against Jenelle and Nathan. In the filing, Doris claims that she has a “warm, close, and loving relationship” with Kaiser, and that “the close relationship has been severely jeopardized with [Jenelle]’s constant threats, belittling, and name calling.”
She also claimed that Jenelle has been violating “the extant Order,” and that if the court gave Doris custody it would “serve the ends of justice.”
She also, clearly, does not want Kaiser’s custody to go back to her son, Nathan. She writes that Nathan “continues to have multiple felony charges in South Carolina that are not yet resolved,” and that although he “currently has supervised visitation [of Kaiser], [Doris] is the primary caretaker for [Kaiser]” during the visits.
In the documents, Doris levels one of the most serious accusations: that Jenelle smoked weed while she was pregnant with Ensley.
She writes, “Upon the birth of Ensley, the newborn tested positive for marijuana.” She continues, “DSS [Department of Children & Family Services] became involved due to Ensley testing positive for marijuana and opened an investigation. Upon information and belief, both [Jenelle and David] had positive drug screens for marijuana.” She also writes that Jenelle “has a long history of drug use and criminal convictions for drug use.”
According to Doris, Jenelle and David are also neglectful of Kaiser’s health. She writes that he “has been in a constant state of congestion for the past several months that never seemed to get better every time he visited. On March 2, 2017, [Doris] took [Kaiser] to Grand Strand Pediatrics where they prescribed a nebulizer. March 19, 2017 he was sick again with runny nose and congestion. Upon information and belief, [Jenelle] does not use the nebulizer on the minor child.”
Neglect isn’t the only thing Doris accuses Jenelle and David of in the court documents. She also says that they may be hitting him.
She writes, “There have been several occasions where the [Doris] has seen… bruisings and markings on the minor child that are unusual and more than normal scrapes that a toddler may have… [Doris] is cognizant of the fact that young boys are rough and touch and stumble and fall and get scrapes and bruises, however, [Doris] feels that [Kaiser]’s bruises have been in places that have been indicative of more than rowdy behavior.”
She recalls one time that she saw a specific mark, saying, “On March 31, 2017 there was a bruise on [Kaiser]’s chest of a finger print which appeared as though a finger had been pressed firmly into the minor child’s chest as well as along the minor child’s left arm appearing he had been jerked by the arm.”
Recently, a video of Kaiser discussing potential abuse with his father Nathan has had fans concerned for the toddler’s safety. The video was later reposted by the account @deadbeatmom_jenelle. In the shot, Nathan can be heard asking, “Who put the marks on your butt?” Kaiser responds, “[David Eason].”
Nathan then asks, “Do you want to live with mommy and David, or do you want to live with Daddy?”
Kaiser responds, “Daddy.”
Soon after, it became clear that Jenelle may be at serious risk of losing custody of her son. The @deadbeatmom_jenelle account, which has previously marked itself as somewhat credible for knowing about Jenelle and David’s sinking house before the episode aired, also added, “Nathan’s mom is currently keeping Kaiser from Jenelle. She is not giving him back today as ordered.”
Of course, many fans were skeptical, but the mysterious account runner responded, “This is why I share old documents and old pictures. I wanted to so that when I tell you the cops are at the house with Nathan and Doris and Jenelle, you’ll know I’m telling the truth.”
“Deadbeat” later confirmed that police were at Doris’ home, adding, “Cops have left, Kaiser is still at Nathan’s mom’s house.”
Nathan’s close friend Josh Friedman seemed to confirm that something was going on between Doris, Jenelle, Nathan, and Kaiser. He tweeted, “Some one grab me some pop corn… Operation save Baby Kai.”
The morning after the video surfaced, Teen Mom Updates on Facebook seemingly confirmed the news. “Last night Jenelle went to pick up Kaiser after his weekend with his dads family and they REFUSED to give him back!” the update reads.
It continued: “Jenelle called the police and the police did NOT make them return Kaiser. CPS is involved and are the ones who made the decision to keep Kaiser from going home with David & Jenelle! Sources are saying ‘something really bad happened.’ We will update with more details as they come.”
They later wrote: “KAISER UPDATE! — This morning we broke the news that CPS and the police would NOT allow Jenelle & David to take Kaiser home from his grandmas house (Nathan’s mother).”
The post adds, “When Jenelle & David showed up, the family refused to return Kaiser. Police were called and CPS became involved. CPS said there were was excessive bruising and hand prints on Kaiser, especially on his rear. They determined it was so bad that they would not let him return to Jenelle & David’s care. An emergency custody hearing will be taking place this morning. We will keep you updated.”
Fans were on high alert because of the overwhelming number of updates that seemed to confirm that Kaiser is at risk. “The sh*t has officially hit the fan folks. This is not a drill,” wrote Brianas-Living-Room on reddit.
After an investigation by Child Protective Services, Doris and Nathan were forced to return Kaiser to Jenelle and her husband. However, the drama continues.
On a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, Nathan explained that he is going to fight for full custody of his son, Kaiser, after charges against him from 2016 were dismissed. He was arrested for domestic violence against his ex, Jessica Henry.
Even though that legal drama has been allegedly handled, Nathan’s fight for Kaiser has been complicated yet again. He was arrested in February for hitting fixtures while driving on a highway.
Ashley Landhardt, his current girlfriend, told Radar Online , “Nathan ran out to get an energy drink alone. He was arrested for pulling away from a gas pump with the pump still in his truck’s tank. It was an accident.”
A motion was filed to reopen the case on June 1st. A clerk told Radar that prosecutors sought to work out a deal before it goes to trial. This could seriously delay his fight for custody of Kaiser, as a pre-trial conference is not scheduled until January of 2019.
