Kids learn from their parents' actions...
I don’t think that any of us need any more proof that Teen Mom Jenelle Evans’ ex-fiancé, Nathan Griffith, is a bad dude; But just in case you did, here it is. Jenelle’s second baby-daddy has found himself in hot water this week—and literally by just being downright mean-spirited. Seriously, it’s like… Why you gotta be so rude, Nathan? Now, he’s “defending himself” in a way that does not inspire confidence in his parenting skills (or personality or judgement, for that matter). It’s honestly a mess.
Making Moves
Earlier this week, Nathan Griffith made a serious power play in the race for the title of Teen Mom 2’s worst baby daddy. Knowing that Adam Lind is almost impossible to out-do, Nathan very publicly leaned in to being a totally terrible person and setting and even worse example for his kids. The father-of-two decided that it would be a good idea to post a photo of a "fat" personal trainer at the gym to his Snapchat, shaming her for her body.
"No Muscles"
Here’s the picture.
First of all, no one cares what you think, Nathan. Shocking, I know, but really no one asked you.
Second of all, ugh. Third of all, wow.
And lastly, gross. Okay, now you know how I feel… And it seems like most decent people on Earth are in agreement that this was not okay.
Fans took action...
For starters, fans got to Tweeting at the corporate offices of Gold’s Gym to let them know about the incident (which seriously calls to the Dani Mathers Snapchat fiasco of 2016). News broke shortly after that Gold’s Gym has officially banned Griffith from all of their locations—literally worldwide—because of course they did.
And Gold's Gym listened!
Seriously, he, a celebrity with a sizable following, shamed the body of someone who worked there… While she was at work. What did he expect?
The gym used Twitter to alert the fans who informed them about the Snapchat that Griffith had been barred from the franchise worldwide. They even tweeted at each concerned user individually—talk about commitment to acceptance. And to my above question about Nathan’s expectations…
Apparently, what he expected was not this.
Repeat Offender
Despite the fact that this isn’t the first time Nathan has taken heat for fat shaming, it seems that he was surprised that people had a problem with his post. The notoriously volatile "star" did not take kindly to those condemning his decision to shame the trainer publicly and without her knowledge.
Unapologetic
Instead, he doubled down on his criticism of the total stranger just days later when speaking to The Real Mr. Housewife.
"I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t get jujitsu lessons from someone who didn’t do jujitsu or get my hair done by a hair stylist with fu**ed up hair. Hence I wouldn’t be going to a trainer that didn’t practice what they preach. To most people, (they think) I’m the biggest douchebag and I really don’t care anymore. The only people who got offended were people who were overweight. If they have a problem with me making a justified comment then they can go f**k themselves. America is becoming filled with a bunch of non-working lazy a** crybabies and I’m getting sick of it. We are so worried about making everyone feel comfortable that it’s f**king up our society."
Uhhh...
I’m not even going to try to break down everything wrong about this statement, but I will say this: The problem isn’t “America” being “too sensitive,” the problem is that Nathan Griffith is a bully. And honestly, I don’t think people were "offended"—they were disgusted that a grown man would behave that way, which is not the same thing.
No one cares, Nathan
No to mention that they were looking out for a woman who didn’t have the chance to look out for herself. He took and posted her picture to a very public forum without her consent. While he was having a laugh at her expense, she was becoming the center of a scandal without her knowledge. That’s not cool, especially because he is a celebrity (kind of). When he posts something to Snapchat, thousands of people see it.
Most importantly, though, no one asked him.
Let me say that again for the people in the back.
No one asked him.
Come on!
That’s the real heart of this issue. It’s just in poor taste to comment negatively on other people’s appearances, especially that of complete strangers. He doesn’t know that woman, he doesn’t know her life. It’s just not his business. It’s hard enough for people to feel comfortable at the gym, no one wants to worry about being shamed for trying when they’re working out—least of all someone who works there.
Besides...
We all have mean thoughts every now and then. I do. You do. Nathan certainly does. The difference is that he took it upon himself to publicly shame this woman despite the fact that it was none of his business. She was at work—with a client who wasn’t him—so why did he feel compelled to share the image with his whole Snapchat? Literally just to be mean. No other reason.
Just to be mean, which honestly makes me glad that it looks like Kaiser won’t be seeing much of his father from here on out. He’s such a sweet little kid, it’d be a shame for Nathan’s unique brand of disrespect to rub off on him, or worse, for little Kai to bear the brunt of it later in life. Not to mention, the toll that a father who fat shames women could take on his daughter, Emery.
I just hope he sees the error of his ways sooner rather than later.
