We all know that ratings are what makes the world goes round, so what happens when the OG Teen Mom crew can't hold their audience?
Ratings for Teen Mom OG have dropped to worrisome lows, and the network may be questioning what to do next! Will they add to the cast, or are they going to scrap the show all together?
The ratings for Teen Mom OG have been steadily dropping, and this season they might be getting too low for MTV. The network has tried to revamp the series multiple times, by adding Bristol Palin and Cheyenne Floyd as well as other cast members, but that might not have been enough to save the reality show.
Bristol left after just one season, and slammed the network for lying about her storyline. The mother of three decided she wasn’t going to go quietly, and took to Instagram to answer questions from fans about her season.
In an Instagram Q&A a fan asked if “TM took a toll on your marriage.” Bristol’s response?
“No, I was divorced before we ever filmed it.”
Does this mean Bristol and Dakota’s entire story line was a sham? Although the “reality” of the show and their relationship remains unconfirmed, Bristol’s choice to leave the show may have something to do with it.
In another set of questions on her Instagram story, Bristol confirmed that she does not want to focus on reality television, and that it is "100% not her career."
Bristol's opinions on birth control and abstinence have always been a point of contention for fans. Some had threatened to stop watching the show due to her addition, since not only is she not an OG Teen Mom, but also because of her politics.
Was adding her to the cast the nail in the Teen Mom OG coffin?
Radar Online reported that Farrah Abraham brought in over a million viewers per episode to Teen Mom before she was fired. Since then, the ratings have continually dropped.
The outlet reported that after Bristol left, the ratings continued to go down. The season premiere only brought in 990,000 viewers, and by the end of the month of June, their viewers dropped to just 849,000. By mid-July, only 679,000 people were watching the show.
The last season finale that aired featuring Farrah had ratings of 1,098,000.
Even after the addition of Mackenzie McKee, Radar Online reported that only 693,000 tuned in for her debut.
Farrah told Radar that the show “should be cancelled,” and said, “No one is beliving the fake storylines.”
“These other parents are super fans of the OG girls and have been fans, planned pregnancy is not what Teen Mom OG was about,” she said. “And now it’s okay to keep planning pregnancies to get on TV? Sad mainly for the children.”
Farrah also told the outlet that she is “done” with reality television.
“I’m thankful I can bring a new element to unscripted and scripted TV soon, as a screenwriter, director, and producer,” she told them. “I’m blessed for my 10 years and can’t wait to make TV that is original, better made, better talent and better executives.”
That’s going to be disappointing to hear for Farrah’s mother! According to an interview with The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Farrah’s mother is looking to revamp her rap career.
Debra Danielsen told the outlet that she is working on new music, as well as new music videos.
“I’ve been taking vocal lessons and I’m releasing three new songs this year and hopefully three new music videos,” she told The Ashley. “The first two songs are hip hop/rap combos, and the third song is more like a Cardi B-style rap!”
Debra also said that she’s been writing the songs and scores on her own.
As for the music videos, she’s working with MTV and is hoping it’ll land her in a new reality show.
“MTV has this new program about musical families that sing together, and Sophia and I have been practicing my songs and raps with my vocal coach,” Debra told the outlet. “One of the reality TV networks reached out to me and is waiting for [Farrah and I] to do a song together.”
“I miss being on TV, especially MTV. I miss all the Teen Mom girls,” she said. “I just feel badly that the show isn’t covering our story anymore.”
Guess we’ll have to keep a lookout for Debra’s music videos.
