Jenelle Evans made national headlines after pulling a gun on a stranger during a road rage incident. Now, will she be facing legal repercussions for her actions?
Jenelle Evans is no stranger to breaking the law. In fact, there’s a great deal of footage of her doing just that that has been aired on MTV. But remarkably, she’s also no stranger to dodging legal repercussions for her actions, and has never spent time in prison for her wrongdoings.

It’s no secret that Jenelle Evans has a pretty serious temper, and that’s gotten her into some sticky situations in the past. This time, MTV was filming the entire thing, and it’s not pretty.
“I just took Jace to another therapy appointment, and we’re going get ice cream before I take him back to my mom’s,” Jenelle reveals in the voice over of a clip of her and Jace in the car. “My car’s a mess! I got food all over me! This is what it’s like having kids,” Jenelle sings.
In the clip, Jenelle can be seen speeding up and slowing down her car. “Dude, are you kidding me right now? This dude behind me… Dude, I will go so slow if he keeps tailgating me,” she says. “I will go slow the whole way.”
She tells Jace to sit back, and says, “Now he’s stuck.” Then the car peels off from behind her and Jenelle slams on the brakes after he apparently stops his car in front of her.
“Are you f*cking kidding me, dude?!” Jenelle screams. “Oh my God!” She tells Jace to give her his phone. He asks if she’s calling 911.
“I am driving down Highway 17 right now. The driver in front of me is a white… looks like an F150. He was tailgating me the whole way, would not stop. Then he races in front of me and purposely slammed on the brakes at 70-something miles an hour, and I almost got veered off the side of the road. That’s how bad I had to slam on the brakes,” she says on the phone, then adds, “Thank you,” and hangs up.
MTV added the following footage to the clip: “The driver in front of Jenelle turned off the highway. Jenelle chose to follow him.”
In the clip, Jenelle stops the car and unbuckles her seatbelt quickly. Then she can be seen moving what appears to be a gun into the side of her seat.
“If he tried to get out and hurt you, I got this nerf gun, I can whip him,” Jace tells his mother as she informs David what happened.
“Jace almost got whiplash and he almost banged his f*cking head,” Jenelle says. “I called the cops, so they’re on the way.”
Jenelle begins yelling to someone off screen, presumably the driver. “I got three cameras in my car. They got the whole thing,” she yells. “I just called the law on you! You were tailgating me, you dumba**!”
She drives farther as a slide from MTV explains, “Jenelle unintentionally backed into the other driver’s mailbox.” Jenelle exclaims “Oops, my bad; I didn’t mean to do that!”
Jenelle yells, “Now he’s backing me in. Dude, he just hit my car! Dude, leave me alone!”
The footage cuts out, but MTV reveals, “At this point, Jenelle pulled out her firearm.”
In the next clip, Jenelle tells David on the phone, “Babe, he won’t let me leave.” David can be heard screaming, “Are you at his house? What are you doing at his f*cking house?!”
“I’m in the middle of his road and now he’s leaving, babe,” Jenelle yells. David screams, “Well don’t f*cking godd*mn follow him! You call the police, you don’t follow people!”
“Now he’s following me,” Jenelle says as she pulls down onto the highway. Jace reports, “There we go, he left.”
“Dude, he hit my car… the front of my car is f*cked up,” Jenelle says. David replies, “You don’t follow a grown man his f*cking house,” and Jenelle hangs up on him.
Jenelle calls her producer, reporting that “an a**hole… slammed onto his brakes so hard that I almost went off the f*cking highway.” Then she reveals that a police officer is following her.
Jenelle starts to cry, revealing that she’s been pulled over. She tells the police officer, “I was on the highway and this guy was tailgating me in a huge truck. He got in front of my car, he slammed on the brakes so hard that I swerved off onto the grass and [Jace’s] head almost hit the dashboard… He went down a dirt road. I followed him, he went to his house and he parked. Then all of a sudden, he pulls out his truck and tries to corner me in. He’s yelling at me, ‘You’re going to jail! You’re not leaving!’” She gets out of the car to talk with the officer.
In the last clip, Jace calls his grandmother to explain the situation. “Mommy got pulled over,” he tells Barbara. “This guy was trying to block Mommy in a dirt road. We turned on a dirt road, and this guy was trying to block us… He slammed into us! Then mommy just points this gun at the guy, and then he said, ‘You better not f*cking shoot!’ Then Mommy finally turned out, and then now we got pulled over.”
Needless to say, fans were quick to discuss the happenings of this shocking footage.
“She is such a piece of sh*t,” BobbyHatesYou raged on reddit. “What is f*cking wrong with her? She follows the guy and pulls a gun on him. She lied about what happened and her fake cry is infuriating. That poor kid! Before the jenelle sympathizers start, this isn’t about Barbara questionable parenting, this is all 26 year old woman choosing to do stupid sh*t, that even her crazy husband had to berate her for. She’s going to f*ck up jace, worse than Barbara f*cked her.”
User pinkelephant3 theorized, “She CHOOSE to go so slow in the fast lane that to purposely p*ss the guy off because she felt she should choose how fast everyone around her drives. Then she gets mad when he tailgates her (which is wrong yes but also a pretty universal sign to get the eff off the fast lane) and then gets made about how it all plays out. I don't understand why MTV continues to have these girls on this show who are complete trash...also how the hell has CPS not been involved with her more?!”
Obviously, Jenelle is getting a lot of lashback from fans about her actions, but is she facing any legal repercussions? Finally, an update about police investigations has come out.
According to The North Carolina State Highway Patrol via ET, no charges were filed against Jenelle or the tailgater after the an investigation into the incident. They added that even after the footage aired on Monday, there are “no plans to reopen the investigation.”
"Jenelle has not commented on the scene, but she’s still on the show -- and we will see her in future episodes,” reveals a source close to Teen Mom 2 production, according to ET. The added that this includes “the season finale, next Monday, and a reunion [show] at the end of August."
According to TMZ, Jenelle got off easy because Jace was in the car. Robert Robinson Jr., the man who brake-checked Jenelle, told TMZ that “once he saw jenelle pll down his dirt road… he alerted all his neighbors someone was coming.” TMZ notes that all of his neighbors, like him, are armed.
Robinson told TMZ that “he only pulls [his gun] out to protect himself… and shoots to kill.” The outlet adds, “He exercised restraint once he saw she had a kid in the SUV.”
Robinson shared similar sentiments in the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Communication Center CFS report.
The report revealed that Jenelle “hit his truck, ran over his mailbox and pulled a gun on him.”
The report reads: “A crazy lady followed him to his house, she is fixing to get shot. She was driving blocking traffic, he tried to pass her on the inside like everyone else and she flipped out.”
According to the driver, Jenelle then followed him onto his private property! The man then “started yelling [to Jenelle] to bring it on.”
Jenelle “hit two vehicles in the yard and then she pulled a 10-84/G,” which is code for “suspect with a gun.” The man told the police officer that he wants Jenelle to be “stopped” and “charged.”
Fans weren’t thrilled, but also weren’t surprised, to learn that Jenelle will not be facing legal repercussions.
“How?!?” wrote MissChandlerBong on reddit. “She gets away with everything. I would've at least gotten criminal damage to property or have to take a defensive driving class. How does she never get in trouble?”
“Their equal stupidity canceled out the investigation. Lucky ...brake…,” joked dar2975. User Tjch321 chimed in, “I think she put on a good show for the cop. However, besides the mailbox, there was no damage or bodily harm. I do believe this is a huge red flag for people who know her. You have to be in a blind rage to be that stupid. I'm terrified of people when Im with my kids and err on the side of 'everyone's trying to kill us’. (Slight exaggeration, but we avoid crowded places and don't talk to strangers). I would NEVER follow someone to their house.”
“I know this is the least egregious thing Jenelle did, but didn't she even have to pay for the broken mailbox? No trespassing charge?” pointed out Gettys63.
Fans aren’t happy that Jenelle got off scot-free with the law, but there’s another way this footage may come back to her. Now, her second baby daddy, Nathan Griffith, has revealed his plans to use this footage against Jenelle in the ongoing custody battle for Kaiser.
“I think this helps me in my situation getting custody of Kaiser because it shows an unstable environment,” Nathan spilled to TMZ. “It shows a very hectic situation [that] instead of being calmed and smoothed over [ended up] escalating to where it can potentially be potentially more hazardous. So I think it shows that the child might be in danger being in a hostile situation like that and not making sound judgement to keep the children safe.”
He went on, “I know in Teen Mom 2, they cut out certain scenes and stuff, especially with David being fired. Of course we’re going to investigate farther into the raw footage and maybe take some of the things to court.”
He also opened up about his concerns for Jenelle’s parenting. “I provide a stable and peaceful environment and even the footage shows where I’m constantly trying to take Kaiser out of hostile situation,” Nathan said. “I am afraid that if Jenelle carries a loaded weapon inside the vehicle and she keeps it that accessible without a lock on it, it’s very dangerous to be around children … If they don't know certain unspoken laws [such as] always treat your gun like it’s loaded.”
He went on, “My personal belief, because of her erratic behavior, as you can tell in the video… I don’t agree with David a lot, but he made a strong statement. She probably shouldn’t have followed someone home period, especially with her aggressive personality.” He added, “That guy could have had a gun, too, and it could have been an all out brawl.” He finished, “I think their parenting skills lack quality, and I don’t think they’re properly educating children about the guns.”
Although Nathan was clearly emphatic about his opinions, fans were still underwhelmed. “It would be more effective if he told his lawyer,” pointed out jerkface1026 on reddit. “No Nathan, it won't help you get custody of Kaiser. It could possibly help Doris, but it won't help you,” chimed in RexyEatsGoats. “I didn’t realize Nathan was trying to get custody rather than just standing behind Doris and saying ‘yeah!’ when she says stuff 😂” joked justoneofmattskids.
But some showed support, with ChristinaCBasicB*tch writing, “I just want to shake Nathan’s shoulders and slap him in the face and say ‘GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND GO SAVE YOUR SON!!’” User penguincatcher8575 “Nathan should absolutely do everything he can to at least get his mom to have custody. They are both terrible parents but at least 1 doesn’t pull out loaded guns in front of their son. Jesus.”
User ReginaldDwight “You live in Florida,” they said. “Your son lives in North Carolina and has visitation with your mom in South Carolina. You occasionally see your son on weekends. It took you 6 f*cking months to even pursue custody. You don't have custody of your first child. You aren't allowed to be with Kaiser unsupervised. Jenelle being a crazy b*tch doesn't automatically mean you're a good parent. You're a sh*tty, violent absentee parent and your mother is raising Kaiser and your daughter's grandparents are raising her. F*ck the f*ck off.”
But some think that MTV pointedly chose not to air the footage in order to prevent her from facing more legal problems.
“Could Jenelle actually have charges against her and the footage of her actually pulling the gun and showing it out the window have been subpoenaed for evidence? Therefore they cannot edit/skew/show it in any way whatsoever because of the court case?” wrote miss_chanandlerbong_ on reddit. “Could her lawyers have written to MTV, preventing it?” theorized Nice2meetya2. However, not everyone was convinced.
“She has no charges,” sushiwalrus “If she did there would be multiple articles about it because in NC charges are public. Destruction of property and pulling a gun on someone wouldn't be a civil suit either it would be criminal so she would have a mugshot. NC makes all mugshots public except maybe mugshots of minors. I've seen a 16 year olds mugshot (some guy from math class) but I'm pretty sure he was charged as an adult because it was an armed robbery charge.”
User Ashwes85 wrote, “I think it was done that way to be more dramatic. I learn in university course years ago about this not showing something can actually make it more powerful because you know it’s happening but your imagination is much worst.” User zuesk134 agreed, “seems unlikely. if that was the case i dont think they would have been able to show any of it. i think MTV just doesnt want to deal with the outrage if they showed a reality tv star pointing a gun at someone. they are aware of the current political climate. they showed her touching the gun at least twice. they def got the point across that she pulled it out, without having to feel the wrath of showing it. i think they learned a lesson with ryan's nodding out while driving.”
