Jenelle’s Book Gets Slammed: Lies, Lies, Lies!

When you write a memoir, the characters and stories affect those you know in real life — because they're about real people. For that reason, it's pretty rare to publish intimate, private details of your life without upsetting some of the people you know and love. This is something that many of the Teen Mom stars have experienced after releasing their various memoirs and books.

Jenelle's recent release, Read Between the Lines: From The Diary of a Teen Mom, has been stirring up some serious waters. She's given insight into some of the darkest times of her life, so it's natural that it will affect those around her — but now she's been accused of getting the stories wrong.

Opening Up

Jenelle has bared all in her new memoir, Read Between the Lines: From The Diary of a Teen Mom. She's made an effort to show what her experiences have been like even when the MTV cameras weren't rolling. And, of course, she's also opened up about her upbringing and childhood experiences.

A Rocky Upbringing

In the book, she claims that her father fell down a flight of stairs while he was holding her. She writes that this was the "nail in the coffin" for his relationship between him and her mother, Barbara. According to Jenelle, not long after that, Babs threw him out of the house.

Jenelle writes that her upbringing was much more rocky than some experienced. She writes about witnessing some volatile things between her mother and father in addition to the staircase incident.

Barbara has claimed that Jenelle's writings aren't true. "She doesn't even know half the story of her life," Barbara said in an interview with Radar Online. "She was only three when her father left. So I'm getting a little sick and tired of" Jenelle opening up about the family history. She also has some opionions about Jenelle's custody over Jace.

We're still seeing the effects of Jenelle losing custody of her first son Jace, but in her memoir, she implies that Barbara manipulated her into signing over her custody rights.

She writes, “One night, my mother convinced me to go out with my friends so I could relax. I should have been suspicious at the time. My mother wasn’t the relaxing type of person, much less the kind of woman to encourage others to enjoy themselves.”

When she got back, she writes, Child Protective Services was there waiting for her.

“My mother had called them and told them I was out partying all night and left my son at home,” Jenelle writes. “She told them I did this pretty much every night, which was a lie. I tried to tell them she told me to go out, but they wouldn’t listen.”

She then says that CPS “threatened to put my son in foster care if I didn’t sign custody of him over to my mom because I wasn’t financially stable."

She goes on, "I wanted to get a lawyer to fight it, but I couldn’t afford one. I felt like a frightened animal backed into a corner. I fell into the trap of signing over the custody of my son Jace. I thought I was doing it so I could get my life back on track and regain custody of my son. The courts awarded her full custody and she has retained rights ever since.”

Disputing Claims

Barbara has disputed the claims Jenelle made and has told Radar, "I’m not gonna look like the bad person here, because I’m not.”
