Jenelle Evans Claims Son Jace Set Fire to Home

“Jace is back with my mom, and I have filed to go to court and make the case private,” Jenelle told Us Weekly not too long ago. “I did that for Jace’s protection because…he is old enough now to where, if it’s in the news, I don’t need him reading that or getting upset.”

She said that she and her mother are “currently not on talking terms” and only communicate when it has to do with Jace’s pick-ups and drop-offs.

“That’s about it,” she told the outlet.

Jenelle added that she and her mom had previously reconciled, but that they ended up reaching “a breaking point.”

“Because of Jace’s bad behavior, he was supposed to live with me,” Jenelle told Us Weekly. “Then she took that all back and acted like none of that ever happened. It’s really concerning to me.”

Jenelle added that she personally hasn’t had much trouble with Jace’s behavior.

“His behavior is always good here. They have so much land to play with and play on, and [there are] so many kids,” she said.

Jenelle explained that Barbara and Jace tend to butt heads a lot more than she and her son do.

Jenelle said she is hoping to regain full custody of her son, but knows that she would never cut her mother out of Jace’s life completely.

“I know in the past I’ve said that, but that was when I was young and mad,” Jenelle said. “I see how important it is for Jace to have that relationship with my mom, no matter how much I dislike her.”

But now, it looks like that story might have changed! According to The Sun, Jace set fire to Barbara’s home during a bout of bad behavior.

According to court papers obtained by the outlet, Jenelle originally filed for full custody of her son on January 28, 2021. She claimed there was a “substantial change in circumstances affecting the welfare of the minor child.” Jenelle also claimed that her son was “at risk of bodily injury” under Barbara’s care.

The Teen Mom 2 star also alleged that her son’s behavioral problems were “out of control and unsafe,” including incidents of physical aggression, which are too much for her mother to handle.

The filing also claimed that Barbara was directed to call a crisis hotline if Jace’s behavior escalated.

But apparently, his behavior did escalate, which resulted in him setting his grandmother’s house on fire…

“The minor child physically assaulted [Barbara] twice causing injury to [Barbara.] The Minor child also burned the carpet because he was angry with [Barbara],” the court papers read. “The minor child has a history of starting fires in the home of [Barbara].”

The incident occurred in December 2020, which could have been the final straw for Jenelle. According to her, her mother did not seek any emergency help during that time.

The filing continued:

[Barbara] cannot manage the minor child’s behavior without assistance from [Jenelle] and the conflict in [Barbara’s home] has resulted in domestic violence between [Barbara] and [Jace].

It is not safe or healthy for the minor child to remain in the custody of [Barbara] as [Barbara] is not properly treating the minor child’s mental health or managing his behaviors.

The filing claims that Jenelle is “fit and proper” enough to have sole custody of her son.

It also mentions Jace’s father, Andrew Lewis, who has never been in the child’s life. The court document claims he abandoned his son and “failed to maintain any contact with [her] or the child since before the child was one year old.”

Jenelle asked that visitation between Barbara and Jace be “therapeutic in natural until they are able to appropriately manage the conflict in their relationship,” and that custody of her son be transferred to her immediately.
