Ryan is one of Teen Mom's most hated baby daddies. Between his cheating and his substance problem, he has caused major drama for his family and Maci. Now is he getting a taste of his own medicine?
Although Ryan Edwards has always been a controversial figure on the show, he has taken it to a new level in the past year. Fans were first introduced to Ryan in the 16 and Pregnant pilot. He is the father of Maci Bookout’s first child, Bentley.
After Farrah Abraham was fired from Teen Mom OG, MTV used footage of Ryan and his new wife Mackenzie Standifer to fill more time in the show.
The couple has famously clashed with his baby mama, Maci.
Much of last season followed Maci battling with Ryan over his addiction and his presence in their son Bentley’s life. Maci continued to refuse Ryan access to his son until he passed a drug test. Even though Ryan insisted that he was sober from the very beginning, he wasn’t able to produce the clean drug test that Maci wanted. In the meantime, it was clear that Ryan was getting incredibly frustrated with Maci’s decisions.
His custody tug-of-war with Maci was one of the focal points of the season, but Ryan continues to bring his own drama. Ryan has been busted cheating on Mackenzie numerous times.
Last year, a young lady gave cellphone screenshots to Radar Online that appeared to show Ryan’s Tinder profile.
After some small talk, she informed him that that she just wants to meet new people, so Ryan flat out asked her, “So not [down to f**k]?”
She replied, “Just depends,” and they exchange phone numbers with potential talk of meeting up later that night. At some point, the young lady gave her screenshots to the gossip site.
When they reached out to Ryan for comment, he simply told them, “I’m married. Get the f**k out of here with that dumb s**t.”
This was not the first time that Ryan was accused of misbehaving while with Mackenzie. In July of 2017, an anonymous woman came forward claiming that Ryan sent her pictures and videos of his genitals. She said that he told her, “Don’t mind the fact that I need to shave but that what happens when you go forever not getting any. When I f**k you all that prenut will go inside you.”
She claimed that all this went down about a year ago, when he may or may not have already struck up his relationship with Mackenzie.
More recently, Mackenzie revealed that she is pregnant with Ryan’s child and due in just a few months. Now, rumors are flying that the baby might not be his. After all the gossip about Ryan cheating, who could blame Mackenzie if she did?
According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Ryan and Mackenzie could not stay quiet about the new baby. It turns out that they were sharing their news backstage while the Teen Mom OG reunion was filming in New York. “That’s when most of the cast and even some of the crew found out Mackenzie was pregnant,” the source revealed.
This is not the first child for either one. Ryan shares 9-year-old Bentley with Maci and Mackenzie has a 4-year-old son Hudson from a previous relationship.
A few days ago, Mackenzie shared a photo of her growing bump captioned, “She has a kind soul, but a cold [heart emoji] Edit: This isn’t a new revelation, I’ve always been the ice queen.” Mackenzie has ample reason to feel cold towards her husband.
Even with a baby on the way, Ryan refuses to grow up and clean up his act. Last week, he was charged with simple possession of heroin. This followed his March arrest for violating probation, probation he was under for possessing heroin. Ryan was pulled over in March of 2017 for an unrelated traffic regulation when police officers spotted a bag full of needles in his car.
“I asked Edwards if he had any medical conditions and he replied, ‘No,’” the officer’s report published by Radar Online reads. “I then asked why he had a hypodermic needle in his backpack and he replied, ‘I don’t know.’"
After the officer told Ryan that the vehicle would be searched and asked again if there were more, Ryan replied, ‘Yes, probably.’” Ryan was quick to admit to officers that his addiction had returned. When police found fourteen hypodermic needles in Ryan’s car, one of which was loaded with heroin, as well as a “bag tied in the center console with a dark substance inside,” it was clear what was going on. The officer asked Ryan about the substance, and Ryan answered, “It’s heroin and I have a problem.”
As a result of this bust, Ryan was issued a misdemeanor citation for simple possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and expired registration, according to Radar.
This arrest occurred before his wedding to Mackenzie, meaning that he has been battling his drug addiction for the entirety of their marriage. He entered rehab last spring after he was filmed driving high to their wedding!
Mackenzie noticed something was wrong with her fiancé right before their wedding. When she realized Ryan was swerving, she tried to straighten out the wheel. Then she asked, “Why are you swerving?”
Ryan responded, “My eyes, babe, in the sunlight I can’t keep ’em open.” Mackenzie asked if he was on Xanax, but Ryan insisted he wasn’t, telling her, “I put that on my kid’s life.”
This incident occurred last year, around the time that Mackenzie famously alleged on-screen that Ryan was spending $10,000 a week on his drug problem.
In a statement from the time, Ryan said, ““A little over 30 days ago, I made the decision to check myself into a rehabilitation facility. I am back home now doing well, and life could not be better. Without the support of my wife and parents I would not have been able to do this. Thank you all for your well wishes.”
Clearly, rehab did not have the desired effect because Ryan has faced extensive legal trouble due to his drug addiction in the months since his in-patient treatment. Now, there is online speculation that Mackenzie may have finally gotten tired of his behavior and strayed outside their marriage.
A recent blind item on Crazy Days & Nights read, “This not very long to the MTV network celebrity is pregnant. She wanted to stay on the show so thought it was the best way to accomplish it. Do [sic] much so, that she bypassed who everyone assumes is the father of the baby. He wasn't up to the task so she got a friend to do the deed.”
On reddit, Hexensabbat wrote, “TOTALLY sounds like Mack…and she's only been on the show for what, a season and a half?”
Cancersurvivorgirl added, “…as Ryan's addiction deepens, he probably can't get it up anymore. I mean, really. It's become very serious & that's a known side effect. Maybe he's willing to pretend a baby is his bc he doesn't want to admit either his drug addiction or his impotence. He's the type that would rather suffer greatly than ever admit either one of those 2 (manly) things…”
Though many assumed that the blind item refers to Mackenzie and Ryan, others are guessing that the gossip is about the newest "teen mom": Bristol Palin!
The Ashley's Reality Roundup shared that Bristol was initially cast because Maci was refusing to film. “She basically told production and crew that she wasn’t going to film if Ryan Edwards was filming because she didn’t want his drug struggles to play out on TV anymore. She didn’t want Bentley to be able to watch that go down," the source revealed.
Bluebonnettex theorized on reddit, “Maci decided to film again and Bristol’s negotiations started falling through. So she gets pregnant to keep the negotiations going and secure her contract.”
However, it seems that things are set in stone. “MTV has been shooting with her already,” the source told The Ashley. “They’ve been out there filming her for the last few weeks under a code name.”
Bristol, 27, has three children: her son Tripp and her daughters, Sailor and Atlee. Bristol confirmed the announcement on Instagram, writing, "I am excited to join MTV's Teen Mom OG. I look forward to sharing my experiences and hope that I can help others on their journey."
Though her mother announced her engagement to Tripp’s father Levi Johnston, they ended their engagement shortly after Tripp’s birth. During custody negotiations in 2010, they rekindled their relationship and became engaged again before it fell through for good.
She married her husband, Dakota Meyer in 2016. Dakota is an outspoken veteran and the youngest person to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor. He is the father of her two daughters.
The couple’s drama is all ready for TV. He filed for divorce in February, noting on the papers it was due to “discord or conflict of personalities.” But since then, the couple has been all over social media with affectionate posts.
For how much money MTV is paying her, it makes sense that Bristol would do anything to keep her spot. According to Us Weekly , producers are paying Bristol an incredible $250,000 for the first season of the show. Additionally, she will also receive an extra $50,000 for a possible second and third year on the show.
Their source added in shock, “She could be making $350,000 [a year] in three years!”
Though the number is large, it is not as much as Bristol had hoped for. “Bristol came in hoping for a very big payday, and really thought she could and would get $500,000...none of the Teen Moms, even Farrah Abraham, made close to that when they first started or even now,” the insider spilled.
Bristol probably expected a hefty payday because she is accustomed to the spotlight. She competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2010. She finished in third place and received an invitation back to the 2012 Dancing with the Stars all-stars competition.
In November 2010, Bristol Palin also made an appearance on her mom’s TLC travelogue/documentary Sarah Palin’s Alaska . Bristol is used to filming her daily life; she starred in a 2012 Lifetime series, Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp . Clearly, she has a thing for reality TV.
