Sometimes, it’s hard to understand why the Teen Mom cast members put up with the difficulties that come with being a celebrity. From having fans who are complete strangers show up at their houses to getting hate on all of their social media profiles to seeing all of their secrets publicly aired, it’s far from a walk in the park. But considering the fact that the girls have all stuck around for so many years, there’s got to be some reason why they put up with it right?
Turns out, the one thing that keeps them coming back for more is what gets most people out of bed every morning: money. That said, the Teen Mom stars make more money than many of us will ever see. The girls often take on side businesses or promote products for a little something on the side, but just how much money are they raking in from MTV itself? Now, everything is out on the table.
Chelsea Houska is a fan favorite of Teen Mom 2 as she works with Cole DeBoer to raise her two adorable children, Watson and Aubree. She’s never been one to brag about what she’s been given, so it’s no wonder that she’s never put a number to how much money she gets from MTV – but there’s one person who will. Her ex Adam Lind was happy to spill the beans.
“Last year was [$250,000] for lil princess,” he wrote on Instagram. “Chelsea’s contract will be up to [over $300,000] for new seasons.”
Jenelle Evans currently has her hands full with David now that many fans are convinced they’re headed for divorce. Luckily, if she plays it safe, she’ll have some hefty savings after Teen Mom 2 ends.
Jenelle went on the radio in 2015 and revealed that she’d made some serious money from MTV so far. She revealed that she’s made a little bit over maybe half [a million dollars],” but that she’s “not really allowed to discuss it.”
Two years later, it’s likely that Jenelle’s paycheck has only gone up. It was recently revealed that MTV paid Jenelle a whopping $15,000 bonus just so she’d let them film at her wedding!
It seems like the girls are pretty set, but Maci Bookout put things back in perspective in her memoir Bulletproof. She wrote:
“Reality TV can make you very famous, but you basically get the s**t end of the deal: Everyone knows your name and talks about you, but there’s no red-carpet prestige or glamorous piles of money. Once you become a so-called reality TV star, people immediately think you’re a high-end celebrity and you travel the world and have a mansion and so much money and all these other things they associate with having your face on television. The fact is, my real life isn’t that much different from what it would have been without MTV. I still live in Chattanooga and go to Wal-Mart and buy bread and milk.”
She didn’t spill exactly how much she makes, but if it’s anything like her co-stars’ paychecks, she could probably afford a little more than Wal-Mart.
Amber revealed how much she was paid during a court ruling, and admitted that she was paid $140,000 per six-month period, meaning she makes $280,000 a year, not including promotions and bonuses. This was back in 2011, so Amber probably makes a good bit more at this point, meaning her new son should be very well taken care of.
Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra recently splurged on a brand new mansion, and if she makes as much as her OG co-stars, it explains why. And if Tyler Baltierra is making even half of Catelynn’s $280,000, the couple will be set for life. On top of that, it’s rumored that the couple made around $100,000 for starring on Couple’s Therapy.
Leah Messer has been boasting an impressive glow-up recently, and it’s clear that she’s doing okay financially. She reportedly makes about as much as her co-stars at around $280,000 per season, but considering she has three mouths to feed and Ali’s medical bills, she might not have a huge amount leftover for fun.
Kailyn Lowry obviously has some money to spare, considering the fact that she’s recently put some serious bank into recent cosmetic procedures. According to many rumors, Kailyn may be making more money because of the so-called baby bonus MTV grants for how many children the girls have while filming. That could explain why she reportedly rakes in $300,000, according to Blasting News.
Farrah Abraham has expensive tastes, that much is clear. Between her lavish mansions, her numerous businesses and her miniature horse Sophia, being Farrah is clearly pretty pricey. In addition to making $30,000 for every episode that airs according to InTouch, Farrah’s numerous side hustles bring her even more money. However, Farrah is said to be in financial trouble! According to rumors that Farrah has been trading sexual favors in exchange for media coverage, things might not be looking good for her!
It’s reasonable that a new employee wouldn’t make as much as a long-time worker, but just how much does that cut Briana DeJesus’s paycheck? According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup the answer is a lot. The outlet reports that Briana makes a mere $20,000 per season. No wonder she still works so hard at her side job!
