Prenatal care is a touchy topic, but is Chelsea Houska risking her unborn child with her eating habits? Fans are concerned for her and her new daughter!
When it comes to Teen Mom pregnancies, the moms are pretty used to facing controversy about their decisions. Pre-natal health can be a very touchy subject, especially since many viewers of the show are mothers themselves.
Fans have noticed a pretty significant change about Chelsea Houskar since she had her second child, Watson. After her delivery, she shed her baby weight and then some, and lately, she’s been showing off a toned and fit body. She also recently shared with fans how she did it: by sticking to a low-carb diet.
“How did @ChelseaHouska lose her baby weight? Need tips!” wrote one of her fans on Twitter. Chelsea shot back quickly, “Low carb.”
“She also does Crossfit, working out and lifting,” another fan chimed in according to OK Magazine. But busy mom Chelsea pointed out, “I wish I still did CrossFit ? I haven’t been to a gym since I was pregnant haha.”
They say you can’t outrun a bad diet, and so Chelsea seems to have done most of her work in the kitchen. Now she’s clearing up one tip that seems to have helped: Cauliflower everything!
She shared an image on Instagram that explained the way she diets. “Welcome to your 30s,” it reads. “A cauliflower substitute has replaced all the carbs you love and the only joy you get is watching shows about murder.” She captioned picture, “I’m not even 30 but this is 10000000% accurate for my life ??”
It’s not always easy for the star, though. “It sucks,” she wrote on Twitter. “Today I made banana bread and tacos for the fam while I ate my chicken and asparagus.” She manages to make things a little bit better by planning ahead. “I do easy/quick meal prep. Lots of chicken breast and broccoli microwave steamers!” she shared.
But now, fans are concerned that there may be more about this diet that sucks.
“Does anyone know if Chelsea was doing the keto diet during her latest pregnancy?” pondered user bellalett on reddit. “I was curious because I've read that pregnant women shouldn't be on that diet.”
“When they’ve tested the keto diet on pregnant mice they were born with enlarged hearts and smaller than normal heads,” pointed out awolfsvalentine, even linking to the study itself. They added, “Organ growth and development was affected enough to cause organ dysfunction which can lead to potential failure.” User Thekodamama agreed, “Unless you know what you’re doing and you’ve had a conversation with your doctor about it, it’s not something someone should just do to keep the baby fat down. I don’t doubt she’s being cautious though, she doesn’t seem to be the type to do it without being sure.”
But Chelsea hasn’t even confirmed that she’s doing keto, just that she’s not eating many carbs. And many argued that her diet was perfectly safe.
“A ketogenic diet is also very similar to the gestational diabetes diet. It’s perfectly safe and even optimal to cut out refined carbs,” pointed out teainjuly. User Apocalypticpplparty chimed in, “Some people consider keto diet has only meat fruits and veggies... She could very well be getting enough nutritional value.”
This isn’t the first time that Chelsea’s diet has come under scrutiny. Many fans have even expressed concern that she may have developed an eating disorder!
