First the Farrah disses, now this? Don’t stop sharing Catelynn!
The Teen Mom OGs are on the road, and they’re giving interview after interview to promote the upcoming season of the show. Someone who has been especially forthcoming and open over the past week of non-stop interviews is Catelynn Baltierra. She’s kept kind of a low profile during the hiatus, but now that the season is getting ready to air, Catelynn is sharing. Like, a lot.
Complicated
Catelynn Baltierra (neé Lowell) is an interesting fixture on Teen Mom OG. On the one hand, Catelynn and Tyler have struggled with substance abuse (like many of their co-stars, mind you) and have borne the brunt of that criticism. On the other hand, the couple has long represented a lot of relative good in the Teen Mom-verse. Their stability, their relationship, and their adoption journey have fascinated and inspired viewers for years.
Like I said, it’s complicated.
Relatable
Part of what has made Catelynn such a popular figure on the show over the years is her relatable struggle with mental health issues. Catelynn battled depression and anxiety for years; it all became too much after giving birth to her daughter Novalee.
She was hit with a particularly rough bout of postpartum depression (as many, many new mothers are) and sought help at an month-long in-patient program about a year ago to try to turn her mental health around.
It looks like she succeeded! (Yay!)
New Deets!
In a new interview, Wetpaint got Catelynn to open up about where she is now, how her family is doing, and even (everyone’s favorite topic) how Carly is doing with her family.
"I feel good. It helped me so much. I think I can say that I’m the best I’ve been in a while," she said of her mental state after leaving treatment about a year ago.
Tyler's Stuggles...
Apparently, Catelynn isn’t the only Baltierra that has run into troubles with their mental health. According to Cate, we’ll see her husband, Tyler, confronting some of his own demons this season. That said, she assured Wetpaint that we’ll see him come out of it by the end of the run.
"He’s doing actually way better than what he was in the beginning of the season," she explained after saying that she didn’t think he would seek the kind of intensive treatment that she did (though, she would support him if he needed it).
Divorce? Not so much.
No word on exactly what kind of problems Tyler will be working through on-screen this year, but I’m willing to bet it has something to do with the rough patch and divorce rumors that were making headlines during filming… Aren’t you?
'ReUnited?!'
Catelynn also discussed her and Tyler’s pet project, ReUnited. Will we get to see more? She said, “don’t hold your breath.” Apparently, MTV isn’t sure about picking up the Baltierra’s series (they called it "too deep"), so it won’t be coming our way anytime soon.
That isn’t to say, though, that Tyler and Catelynn don’t want to continue the project.
We'll see...
According to Catelynn, they have the option to shop the show around and it could very well get picked up by another company. I, personally, don’t think MTV will let that happen. I’m willing to bet that they’ll do everything in their power to keep the Baltierras with the network, so hopefully we’ll be seeing it as an MTV webseries sometime soon!
What about Carly?
Finally, Catelynn filled fans in on everything that they always want to know about their first daughter, Carly, whom they gave up for adoption, as featured on 16 and Pregnant. Over the years, the young couple’s relationship with Carly’s parents, Brandon and Teresa, has gone from amiable to strained and back in turn.
The Nova Effect
As of now, Catelynn revealed that things are good with Carly’s family and that they are in contact quite often. She explained that she and Carly’s mother exchange videos and photos of the girls quite often. They are even trying to plan a visit in the coming months. As for the tensions that have arisen over the years?
Catelynn explained that Brandon and Teresa didn’t like the attention Carly was getting thanks to her famous birth parents; she never understood their concern until she had Nova.
"Back in the day I used to be so like, 'why, who cares?' but now I get it. I really do," the star said.
