Fans waited anxiously through months of rumored candidates to find out how MTV would solve Farrah’s dramatic departure. Now they’ve revealed the newest “teen mom” and it is a shock! Even more shocking-her huge salary!
Rumors have been flying over who would take the fourth spot on Teen Mom OG since Farrah Abraham was axed, but it was finally revealed that it would be a familiar face: Bristol Palin!
Viewers were surprised by the announcement, but no one could have ever expected how much MTV wants Bristol on the show. Someone let it slip how much Bristol is getting paid and no one can believe it!
Though Farrah was famous for her constant drama on Teen Mom, her replacement is making waves before she even arrives on set! Farrah was fired last fall in an explosion of controversy. Thousands of her adult fans tuned in for a live show on the adult streaming site CamSoda that she had been promoting for weeks . But when viewers logged on to watch Farrah get off, they instead watched her announce that she was recently fired from the cast of Teen Mom OG.
She opened up about the news on an Instagram Live confessing, “I had a super horrible day. MTV fired me…because my press for my own brand outshines their press. And also, they were s*x shaming me about doing this cam show today.” Farrah then went off on MTV in a lengthy Instagram rant.
She complained among other things, “Viacom let me go because as a Business Mogul I act like an adult and part take in adult promotions and activities that other adults do for FREE or in private!”
Farrah added, “Cheers to basically winning against hurtful disgusting executives who do way more in their personal lives then what I could ever be judged for.”
She ended her post by saying,“#USA #AMERICA…Your much better then all the politics & the people at the top who could never be at the top if it wasn’t for you! #godisgood.”
MTV aired footage on Teen Mom OG of the incident that caused them to sever ties with the outspoken star. In the episode, Farrah blasts a producer as she sits in a car, “I know I don’t like you, and I know I don’t even want to f**king look at you. F**k you and your excuses.”
In a tense conversation between Farrah and executive producer Morgan J. Freeman, he asks her, “Do you feel like you respect the people that are around you that are trying to make the show and spend all this time?”
Showing off her infamous attitude, Farrah responds, “I respect a lot of people who respect me.”
“Out of nine moms, you’re the only one that’s the problem,” Morgan says.
“I’m not difficult!” Farrah insists. “I am so understanding, I work my a** off just like everyone.”
That’s where the clip ends. In the context of her abusive tirades, MTV’s decision to fire Farrah became clearer to everyone.
At first, fans could hardly believe the news that Farrah was no longer part of the cast. But after MTV confirmed it, they finished out the rest of the season of Teen Mom OG with only three girls: Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout, and Amber Portwood.
Obviously, these three have had a rocky relationship with Farrah for years, so they weren’t too torn up about her loss. But considering that Teen Mom 2 recently gained a fifth cast member, it was a bit strange to have only three cast members for Teen Mom OG. However, producers have been diligently hunting for Farrah’s substitute.
Fans were outraged by the rumored replacements. Not only were fans in a furor, but the teen moms were not happy either.
No matter who producers chose to join the cast, they long ago expressed their hesitation to welcome a replacement onto the show.
In March, Catelynn said on Kailyn Lowry’s podcast Coffee Convos, “They can’t [bring in another girl to our show] because we’re the OG’s, the original girls. If you do that, it won’t be the original girls anymore.”
Despite the backlash, MTV recently announced Farrah’s replacement and nobody could have guessed who it would be!
At first, it appeared that MTV was going to replace Farrah with 16 and Pregnant star Mackenzie McKee, who appeared on Teen Mom 3 with Briana DeJesus before it was cancelled after one season. When Mackenzie posted a snapchat in her living room that featured Teen Mom producer Morgan J. Freeman, it only added fuel to the fire.
A source told The Ashley’s Reality Roundup in February , “There’s a production team that’s been going to Oklahoma to film Mackenzie over the past few weeks. Right now, they are planning to use that footage to do a ‘Teen Mom’ special. It will likely be ‘Being Mackenzie’ but that hasn’t been totally confirmed yet.”
Despite her fans and the rumors, Mackenzie was not selected to be on the show and the spot looked available for another familiar face.
There was another popular rumor that the new Teen Mom OG would be Mackenzie Standifer, Ryan Edwards’ wife.
The Ashley quoted a source in February who said, “They are planning to pay her around $3,000 an episode to take the fourth spot on Teen Mom OG. That would obviously be significantly less than the other girls make. It is not a done deal yet, but the consensus is that Mackenzie Edwards will get the spot. They added, “Recently, they’ve been filming her life with Ryan for Maci‘s segment almost more than Maci’s life. Plus, she was a teenage mother so it kind of makes sense.”
Mackenzie has a preschool-aged son from a previous relationship and announced her second pregnancy in March. Given Ryan’s constant drama, fans thought that she could be a good pick for the show
Fans were shocked though when it looked like MTV wasn’t moving forward with either Mackenzie!
According to The Ashley in June, MTV decided to go with a girl who has never been on any of the other shows in the franchise.
The outlet’s sources alleged that Farrah’s replacement will be an MTV star known for her appearances on Are You The One? and The Challenge .
“[The network] realized that the fans weren’t going to be excited about either option,” the source said. “So they continued to look.”
It seemed like a done deal that Cheyenne Floyd and her baby daddy Cory Wharton would be the newest addition to the Teen Mom OG cast! Cheyenne and Cory have a one-year-old daughter, Ryder.
In addition to not being a previous cast member of Teen Mom or 16 and Pregnant, there was another controversy over casting Cheyenne: she didn’t have her first pregnancy until she was 24! We don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound very "teen mom" to us.
It was controversial, but The Ashley’s source was positive that MTV made its final decision. “It’s official,” the source said. “Contracts have likely already been signed.”
The Are You the One? veteran announced her pregnancy on Instagram in October 2016. Her pregnancy and the birth of baby Ryder was a quiet affair, especially by Teen Mom standards. When Cheyenne discovered she was pregnant, she refused to reveal who the father was for several months. She came under the microscope last December when it was finally revealed that her baby daddy was a former co-star.
According to a source at The Challenge , Cheyenne and Cory were aware they were in the running for the position, The Ashley reported. “Their co-parenting relationship is nowhere near as happy as they try to make it out to be on social media,” the source clarified. “They will fit in perfectly on Teen Mom.”
A source revealed that MTV had already sent film crews to Los Angeles to begin filming the couple. As you would expect from this crew, the girls had a lot to say about a new co-star.
According to Radar Online , a source said Amber was “pissed off about the new cast member” and doesn’t “like the idea of someone who is a total newbie and has never even been on the show before coming on permanently.”
So if the girls were not happy about Cheyenne or the other rumored cast members, what do they think about MTV’s final, highly controversial choice?
TMZ has reported that Bristol Palin, daughter of former GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, will be joining the cast of Teen Mom OG!
Bristol, 27, has three children: her son Tripp and her daughters, Sailor and Atlee.
“MTV has been shooting with her already,” the source tells The Ashley's Reality Roundup . “They’ve been out there filming her for the last few weeks under a code name. It’s likely that someone in the Palin camp leaked the news to TMZ.”
Bristol confirmed the announcement on Instagram, writing, "I am excited to join MTV's Teen Mom OG. I look forward to sharing my experiences and hope that I can help others on their journey."
The Ashley’s sources shared that Bristol was initially cast because Maci was refusing to film. “She basically told production and crew that she wasn’t going to film if Ryan Edwards was filming because she didn’t want his drug struggles to play out on TV anymore. She didn’t want Bentley to be able to watch that go down," the source revealed.
Unlike most of the teenage mothers who have joined the 16 and Pregnant franchise and its spin-offs, Bristol is long accustomed to the spotlight. At 17 years old, her pregnancy with Tripp was announced at the 2008 Republican National Convention, shortly after her mother was chosen as John McCain’s running mate.
Sarah Palin’s statement after the announcement read, “We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.”
Evidently, they are supportive of her choice to join Teen Mom OG as well. A source told Us that her parents, Sarah and Todd Palin will be making appearances on the show. Sarah told TMZ on the matter, “Whatever Bristol needs, whatever she wants.”
The family is already very familiar with reality TV.
Bristol competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2010. She finished in third place and received an invitation back to the 2012 Dancing with the Stars all-stars competition.
In November 2010, Bristol Palin also made an appearance on her mom’s TLC travelogue/documentary Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Bristol is used to filming her daily life; she starred in a 2012 Lifetime series, Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp .
Sarah gushed to TMZ on Friday, “Bristol’s gonna be a great messenger for kind of overcoming a little bit of challenge and doing well in life.”
Though Sarah is not familiar with the show, she added, “My daughters have been telling me who all the characters are. I’m kind of trying to catch up, but my daughters Bristol and Willow and Piper, they all have great respect for some of the girls who have really overcome some obstacles and done well with their children.”
Bristol does have something in common with the other moms: a memoir of her teen mom journey! She released Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far in 2011. Like other stars of the show, she is an avid Instagram influencer! She has been an outspoken promoter for TeaMi, which the website explains is “not just tea, it’s a lifestyle.”
Though her mother announced her engagement to Tripp’s father Levi Johnston, they ended their engagement shortly after Tripp’s birth. During custody negotiations in 2010, they rekindled their relationship and became engaged again before it fell through a second time.
She married her husband, Dakota Meyer in 2016. Dakota is an outspoken veteran and the youngest person to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor. He is the father of her two daughters.
He filed for divorce in February, noting on the papers it was due to “discord or conflict of personalities.”
The couple has since been all over social media with affectionate posts. Teen Mom fans are used to on-again, off-again couples. Maybe they can double date with Leah and Jeremy!
In 2009, Bristol drew criticism for stating that abstinence is “not realistic at all” in a Fox News interview. Evidently, she spoke from experience. She announced her second pregnancy in 2015 after her wedding was called off. In a depressing blog post she lamented, “Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one…When life gets tough, there is no other option but to get tougher.” She added, “I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you.
Now being a mom is really important to Bristol. In July, she posted a photo captioned, “having the best time at my sisters bachelorette party (but reallllllly missing my kids).”
So what about the other rumored replacements?
TMZ reported that Teen Mom OG will still be following in Teen Mom 2 ’s footsteps in adopting a Teen Mom 3 alum. They maintain that Mackenzie McKee will be taking a fifth spot on Teen Mom OG .
The Ashley , however, is adamant that a fifth spot will still be taken by Cheyenne.
“Out with the old, in with the new. You guys are boring they want ratings,” Cory wrote on Twitter.
Tyler Baltierra, his potential co-star, retweeted Cory’s tweet, adding, “Dude it’s so true though.”
Cory added in a later tweet, “I can’t wait till I can really talk.”
But how is MTV going to afford all this star power?
According to Us Weekly , producers are paying Bristol an incredible $250,000 for the first season of the show. Additionally, she will also receive an extra $50,000 for a possible second and third year on the show.
Their source added in shock, “She could be making $350,000 [a year] in three years!” Though the number is large, it is not as much as Bristol had hoped for. “Bristol came in hoping for a very big payday, and really thought she could and would get $500,000...none of the Teen Moms, even Farrah Abraham, made close to that when they first started or even now,” the insider spilled.
Farrah, however, is not concerned about the show and its new cast. She told Us , “Who cares! … I don’t care as there’s no replacement for me, as we all know.”
Other former stars of the franchise are angry about the decision. David Eason posted on Instagram, “I know MTV is comprised of hypocrites but how do you fire me and hire Bristol Palin after all her homophobic and racist remarks.”
“Nothing against @bsmp2 personally but everything against @mtv . Liberals at their best trying to confuse, persuade and penalize,” David added in his caption.
He was fired after a series of homophobic posts on his twitter account. MTV released a statement in February reading, “David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”
Sorry David, but it looks like Bristol is going to be on the show, whether or not he likes it!
