A diagnosis of cancer is enough to stop anyone’s life in its tracks, turning it completely upside down. Especially when the sufferer is young, active, and healthy, facing off with cancer can be an incredibly devastating experience. Not only is it extremely difficult for those who are battling the diagnosis themselves, but all of those who love and care for them are also afflicted with pain and worry. Truly, it’s enough to make even the most positive of people struggle.
Hit with the double whammy of lung cancer and brain cancer that has already reached stage 4, this Teen Mom star is reaching out to all of her fans for thoughts and prayers during what may be one of the most difficult times of her life.
Devastated and Angry
Right now, the Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 stars are in the spotlight, but long-time fans will remember the show Teen Mom 3 that was axed after only one season. The show brought its own unique cast of characters, including Briana DeJesus, who eventually made the migration into the Teen Mom 2 cast.
One member who didn’t make the cut was the quirky and contraversial Mackenzie McKee, who still has a huge fan following despite not being on the show anymore.
Now, she’s using this spotlight to get help through an incredible hardship. Mackenzie has revealed that her mother, Angie Douthit, was recently diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. Masses were also found in her lungs.
Angie initially sought medical attention after she believed she had bronchitis. However, an exploratory surgery found that the causes of her ailment were actually cancerous formations. According to reports by TMZ, the surgery found five lesions covering her brain, masses in her lungs, and blood clots throughout her body.
Angie will soon head in for radiation treatments, according to the outlet.
Mackenzie has been documenting the rocky journey every step of the way. Despite her usually upbeat and positive demeanor, it’s very clear this update is hitting Mackenzie very hard.
“I’m devastated, I’m angry, I’m shook, I can’t breathe,” she wrote on an Instagram collage of her mother. “You are everything. Please pray.”
Just months ago, Mackenzie and her mother completed a diabetes awareness run. After which, Mackenzie touted her mother as being “the healthiest person [she] knows.”
Mackenzie set up a GoFundMe, asking for donations to help with Angie’s medical bills. In the description, she wrote:
“Angie has always been the healthiest person. Always eating everything organic. Doesn’t smoke and never did, doesn’t drink and she runs marathons and works out 2-3 times a day. Cancer does not run in the family. So this has come as a complete shock to the family.”
Mackenzie has also been updating fans about her heartbreaking experience on Twitter.
“Haven’t cried this hard in over a ten years. By far the worst night of my life. All prayer warriors. Please pray for my mom,” she wrote. “What we thought was bronchitis turned out to be 3 masses on her brain, 1 large imone in her Lungs and multiple blood clots. We are in shock and devastated.”
She continued, sharing that her mom’s upcoming brain surgery has her “sick”. “[I] want to wake up From this nightmare,” she concluded.
She also reached out to thank friends, family, and fans for their support, writing, “Thank you everyone for the love and support for [Angie]. It was a long night full of tears and frustration. So many people love her.”
