Is Chelsea out?
Over the years, fans have gotten to see a lot of changes to the Teen Mom cast. Even though it seemed that all of the girls were in it for the long haul, the past year alone has proved that MTV isn’t afraid of firing cast members when they won’t step up to the plate. With the cast members shifting so much recently, fans have become aware that they shouldn’t take anyone’s role in the show for granted anymore.
But it seems that the last person who would ever anger MTV is Chelsea Houska. Aside from her constant fighting with her baby daddy Adam, Chelsea and her husband Cole show a quiet, loving family that wouldn’t upset anyone… right?
Now, Chelsea and her family are speaking out about her absence from the show. Are we about to see another major cast shake-up?
Keep reading until the end to hear an update about Chelsea’s adoption plans!
Cast Shake-Ups
When Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 first rolled out, eight cast members were chosen to make up the cast family. For years, despite threats to quit and firing rumors, the same eight cast members were in it for the long haul.
MTV themselves were the first to shake this up when they introduced a new cast member into the mix. Briana DeJesus was added to the cast of Teen Mom 2, bumping their number up to five. We all know that Briana’s addition made for some of the most drama of the season, but that doesn’t mean her addition wasn’t controversial.
Soon after Briana’s debut on Teen Mom 2, Teen Mom OG was in for a shake-up as well. It started with rumors, but MTV soon confirmed that they were severing ties with Farrah Abraham. The issue was two-fold: in addition to her mistreatment and hostility toward the cast members, Farrah also refused to stop starring in adult films despite executive producer Morgan J. Freeman asking her to. In a scene from the middle of Teen Mom OG, Morgan and Farrah duke it out.
“I think we want to look at just how people are treated,” Morgan tells Farrah. “Do you feel like you respect the people that are around you that are trying to make the show and spend all this time?”
“I respect a lot of people who respect me,” Farrah says.
“Right,” Morgan shoots back, “but you do have very little empathy or compassion for other people.” He goes on, “There has to be respect for our crews and for the producers… and the amount of work that goes into keeping you happy with crew has bubbled up to a point that we have to figure out if we move forward.”
Farrah seems unsympathetic. “If that’s overwhelming for you, I’m sure there’s a better way of handling it,” she says, sounding sarcastic.
“Out of nine moms, you’re the only one that’s the problem,” Morgan says.
“I’m not difficult!” Farrah insists. “I am so understanding, I work my a** off just like everyone.” That’s where the clip ends.
Another One Bites the Dust
In a later scene, Farrah calls up Morgan and another producer. In traditional Farrah fashion, she “wishes them the best,” and informs them that she’ll no longer be part of the cast.
Soon after that, MTV again proved that it wasn’t messing around when it announced that David Eason was formally fired after his homophobic rant.
“Lmao why don’t you go tell the homo and transgender parents to start teaching their kids better morals? Oh I forgot thats supposed to be normal,” David wrote in a recent tweet which followed months of bigoted comments from the star.
When one fan asked, “Who are you to say what’s normal or what’s moral? Are you going to teach your children to hate gay and transgender people?” David revealed that he plans to raise Jace, Kaiser, Ensley, and Maryssa to be homophobic and bigoted.
“No, Im going to teach them not to associate with them or be that way…” he said. “If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.”
When fans accused him of being homophobic, he said, “Never said anything about being scared [of] homos,” he wrote. “Homophobic? You really lost it now, im not scared [of] s**t especially a homo.”
Whether or not fans agree with MTV’s decision, the question on everyone’s minds is: will Jenelle be fired, or quit, as well? As of right now, Jenelle has released a statement about MTV’s choice.
After David Eason showed his true colors — his homophobic and transphobic colors, that is — fans demanded that MTV take action. In addition to publicly airing their distaste for David’s charged words, many fans banded together to demand that MTV take action against Jenelle Evans’ husband. With their petition gaining over 9,000 signatures of viewers who wanted David to be fired from the show, the fans’ demands apparently became too much for MTV to ignore.
“David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on ‘Teen Mom 2,’ effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him,” read a statement by MTV released Feb. 20, 2018.
Now, some fans are thinking we may see another change to the cast. In fact, Chelsea Houska’s own father Randy is the one bringing up these shifts.
Where’s Chelsea?
“Holy smokes!!!! @ChelseaHouska was on @teenmom tonight! For more than 30 seconds, it’s a start,” Randy tweeted after the episode aired. “I think this @mtv #teenmom2 thing is going to catch on.”
Randy wasn’t the only one to pick up on Chelsea’s absence from the show in the past few seasons. During the reunion drama, most of the scenes were given to Kailyn Lowry, Briana DeJesus, Javi Marroquin, and Jenelle Evans. In fact, Chelsea was only in one episode for about a minute, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.
“So true!” wrote @LizPalace on Twitter. “We need more Chelsea time! Love her story!” User kelsfiely wrote, “After the previous two episodes I’m tempted not to watch anymore. Too much fighting and I watch solely because I’m obsessed with @ChelseaHouska.” User @Syeager515 agreed, “That’s why I quit watching. If a group of girls who now have the resources, can’t get their crap together, why do they deserve my attention? Chelsea has actually made a life.”
But not everyone agreed that they want more Chelsea on the show.
“Why are Chelsea’s scenes so short?” wrote reddit user depechelove. “It seems as though every other mom has double the screen time. I know Chelsea leads a much more ‘normal’ life, but it seems as though she hardly has screen time!”
“Because no one wants to see her driving to Starbucks and talking about Adam getting arrested for the 376th time and talking about aubree’s name change for the 5th time,” wrote reddit user AriD246. User RandR0088 wrote, “MTV knows the public isn’t interested in boring tv. Not even trying to be rude, how many reality shows do you know that have a normal, stable cast?”
