Is it taking a turn for the worse?
It’s not uncommon for the members of the Teen Mom cast to go through difficult times. After all, becoming a mother before you’re 18 is enough to put a pretty serious strain on anyone. Often, these difficulties come with serious health threats, such as depression, substance abuse, and other mental health problems. It’s no wonder fans are often concerned about the health of the Teen Mom cast members.
Now, health concerns are amping up for one girl in particular: Catelynn Lowell. Those who have been following her for a long time will remember that this isn’t the first time, by far, that fans have worried for her health.

Health Concerns

Unfortunately, one of the common themes surrounding the cast of Teen Mom is the fact that many of them struggle with substance abuse. Whether it’s alcohol or harder drugs, many of the cast members have histories of relying on substances to get them through their hardest times. Catelynn Lowell is no different.
Although Catelynn seems to be in a much better place now, there are still times that her health has gone up and down. She and Tyler seem to be happy as they raise their second daughter, Novalee, after deciding to give their first up for adoption.
However, now fans are concerned that her health is once again in decline. One concerned fan, Reddit user jailbirddie, spoke out about their concerns. They wrote, “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to fat shame Cate or anything. But homegirl is obese and her skin is starting to look yellowish when she doesn’t wear makeup. She seems practically out of breath just from walking around her own animal-filled home.
Is it drugs, or the fact that she’s a heavy smoker? This makes me so sad for Nova. I doubt Cate is doing her physical health favors.”

User NoThankYouTrebek chimed in, “I don’t like Cate and Tyler but I feel bad for her. I don’t think Tyler is in love with her, and I think she knows it. She doesn’t take care of herself and that in itself makes her depressed. Then, she’s depressed so she doesn’t take care of herself. It’s a sad, terrible cycle.”
“I think depression is a huge factor. Obviously the smoking and the weight doesn’t help, but I’ve known plenty of ‘bigger’ people who look great because they take care of themselves and are most importantly happy. I feel for Cate even though I can’t stand her. I’ve been in that depressive rut and didn’t look dissimilar to her,” user Cleganegal agreed.

Others weren’t as comfortable speculating on Catelynn’s health. User QueenAndreaa wrote, “I’m gonna leave the matter of Catelynn’s health to her and her doctor.” User elh1983 agreed, “This thread shows people just don’t understand the toll depression and mental illness takes on a person. You can’t just ‘snap out of it’, and somedays you really only want to lie in bed or on the couch. Depression effects every single income and class.”
User dinolawyer said that the discussion was “super gross and also triggering to people with body image issues.”
