Millions of people love to tune in to Teen Mom every Monday evening, but even fan favorite shows can’t stay on the air forever. All good things must eventually come to an end, and that includes all of the drama that the Teen Mom cast puts out on a weekly basis.
After nearly a decade on air, Teen Mom and its many spinoffs have proven much more successful than early viewers anticipated. But has the show peaked?
When Teen Mom eventually comes to an end, the cast members will likely be the first to know. Recently, fans have begun to suspect that they’ve already been let in on the secret. Did Chelsea just let slip MTV’s plans to pull Teen Mom 2 off the air?
Got the Axe
There are a lot of factors that go into deciding whether a show will stay on air or not, but viewership is a major player. When networks see that fewer and fewer people are tuning in for a show, it just doesn’t make financial sense to keep it airing.
Many fans saw that firsthand this week when the popular comedy Brooklyn 99 was given the axe — but the story had a surprise twist ending. After its original network, Fox, announced they would be cancelling the show, fans started a massive outpouring, begging other networks to pick up the show across social media. Surprisingly, the method worked! Brooklyn 99 was picked up by NBC to continue on its journey, all thanks to fans. Could the same work for Teen Mom 2?
Hype it Up!
After the Brooklyn 99 drama, many celebrities spoke out about the incident, including Twitter queen Chrissy Teigen. “Tip: If you love a show, talk about it while it’s still on the air,” she tweeted. “Help them out. Hype them up. Like me and [Vanderpump Rules.] You think that sh*t is ever getting cancelled? That sh*t is never getting cancelled.”
Chelsea Houska quickly responded to Chrissy with a bombshell: “Oh how I wish you loved Teen Mom 2,” she wrote. Fans were quick to worry what this means about the state of the show!
“Chelsea’s tweet to Chrissy Teigan regarding supporting shows so they aren’t canceled – is the show spiraling?” wrote reddit user kvm_1496. “Chelsea’s response to her tweet gives me vibes the show may be seeing its end? Idk! What do y’all think?”
Some users on Twitter like @DivaATL1 were happy with the idea, writing, “teen mom 2 deserves and needs to get canceled. u guys love to threaten to leave and want your privacy so bad i hope they give u what u want.” But others were more concerned. “I’ve been watching all your babies grow up for the past 9 years!! ” wrote @karenscool101. User @ninalouison wrote, “I hope this doesn’t mean @TeenMom is at risk of being cancelled?!😩” But some simply thought Chelsea was just trying to get some hype for herself!
