Meet the Family!
Catelynn Lowell has had her fair share of ups and downs during her time on Teen Mom, much like the rest of her fellow cast members. Although things have been mellowing out for her lately, there are still parts of her life that she struggles with, including taking care of her second daughter, Novalee Reign.
But it’s not only Novalee that Catelynn cares for. In fact, another responsibility of her life may be someone her fans have forgotten about or never knew existed: her half-brother, River. He’s not around much, but Catelynn’s love for River is still perfectly clear.

When it comes to Catelynn Lowell, family always comes first. She’s dedicated her life to her daughter Novalee and long-time husband Tyler Baltierra. Despite her personal struggles, she seems to be willing to do anything it takes to make her family happy.
This unconditional love doesn’t stop at her immediate family; recently she’s shown how much love she has for her siblings.
Even though Catelynn and her half-brother, River, didn’t spend a lot of time together while they were growing up, their relationship seems to still be going strong. River lived with Catelynn’s father, David Lowell, in Florida, for many years before they moved to Michigan so that they could both be closer to Catelynn. It looks like this is benefiting all of the members of the family, and they seem happier.
Catelynn and River seem to be closer than ever now, and River even had the task of breaking the news about Catelynn’s pregnancy on her official Facebook page back when she had just conceived Novalee. When River officially became an adult, hitting the age of 18, Catelynn and their family took to Instagram to share their celebrations.
Cate posted this picture of her little bro, captioning it, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY River! 18 now thats crazy! I remember when u were still in diapers and we would camp out in the living room watching tv all weekend.” She affectionately added, “A little s**t then and now just a bigger s**t.”

River hasn’t made many appearances on the show, so there isn’t a huge amount of information about his personal life. However, it has been revealed that River is paralyzed and lives his life in a wheelchair. When Cate posted this update about River’s birthday, though, some fans were surprised to remember that he even existed!
Reddit user Fanceesweeets wrote, “Did anyone else not know Catelynn had a younger half-brother??” User sugarmagnoelle replied, “I saw so many episodes that he was a part of! I’m surprised so many people don’t remember him.” Redditnewbie1001 wrote, “I remember reading stuff about that being the reason her dads not around as much and why it’s not an issue that he’s not around as much. Might have completely made that up though.” User nonamehere12345 chimed in to remind fellow fans, “He’s been on the show before. Cate’s dad and him were visiting from Florida and they were all out to eat at a restaurant. The server came up and whispered in one of their ears asking for an autograph.”
